Think coaching salaries are out of line? Some bowl executives are laughing all the way to the bank, Brent Schrotenboer of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. In 2002, Gary Cavalli earned $90,000 as executive of a new postseason game in San Francisco. In 2006, his compensation package was $362,018 for the game now called the Emerald Bowl. “Frankly, my compensation package is none of your . [link]

Raking In The Bowl Game Cash [Bowl Jerks]
Published 12/13/2007 by Leitch at Deadspin
It's always nice to have bad guys in sports, and there aren't many more reliable bad guys than those shady, mysterious characters who run the lower-tier bowl games. And you don't want to know how much money they're making. The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that some of these bowl guys are raking in nearly $500 grand. In 2002, Gary Cavalli earned $90,000 as executive of a new postseason game in San Francisco. In 2006, his compensation package was $362,018 for the game now called the Emerald Bowl. "Frankly, my compensation ...

... Bumpkin Booster Bolt BCS to Board, Bring ‘ball to Brontosauran Backwater Status! The Wiz has a nice article that the tradition, respect, and all those other crap words people trot out to defend indefensible things certainly apply to the bowl system: the head of the Emerald Bowl makes six figures for putting on the goddamn Emerald Bowl. ...

... Many of you probably read this earlier in the week, but I wanted to highlight the blog on bowl presidents' salaries. This process will never change because so many people are invested in the current system. There are 30 bowl committees who have created a cottage industry around these games. They create an artificial postseason that is essentially a kick back to college coaches and provides none of the pressure of a playoff. ESPN gets built in controversy all year and cheap programming during Christmas week. Ugh. I wish the university presidents (not Leahy specifically) would ...

No bowls + playoff = more money

... The main reasons why we don’t have bowl games instead of a playoff system in college football are probably: 1) Money 2) Tradition Well, as The Wizard of Odds and Deadspin pointed out, teams could probably make a lot more money involved if the bowl games no longer existed: In 2002, Gary Cavalli earned $90,000 as executive of a new postseason game in San Francisco. In 2006, his compensation package was $362,018 for the game now called the Emerald Bowl. “Frankly, my compensation package is none of your ...

... and Coach Tom O’Brien’s system and recruiting having a year to take root, there is a very good chance that this will be the last time the Wolfpack won’t be performing on a bowl stage for a long time. Just because the Pack isn’t bowling doesn’t mean that you won’t be watching any games this year. Today’s entry should serve as a pretty decent primer on the season’s events. Perhaps the most interesting bowl article that you will find has nothing to do with this year’s match-ups and is linked up in this entry. ...

ESPN Reviews MD's Football Season

And it don't look so hot. The gist? We stunk; injuries played a bit part, but we didn't make the plays and didn't have the skills needed. If there is a QB controversy next season, then shoot me. On the heals of the hoops team losing to the OH-IO Bobcats, well, I'm close to giving up. Oh, and I love Erin Henderson. He gave it all to the team, and he better get something in return from ...

Dook suchs

Yes Johnny, they do suck. Both at football, and with any attractive women. Needless potshot? Ok, I admit it. There's no need to point out how bad the football team is. But evidently their football team SUCKS. I'll disagree with ESPN and say the "biggest disappointment" was the team, the record, and probably the past 20 years.
