6-2 Tampa: Kazmir's still got it
Pinstripe Alley —
... There's still something about Scott Kazmir that upsets the Yankees because, in the midst of his worst season as a pro, he's still able to shut them down for seven innings.
Tampa Bay just had the better pitcher tonight. Sabathia did not bring his 'A game', and Kazmir did, allowing just one run in seven as opposed to Sabathia allowing six in 5.2.
Two errors and two GDPs certainly didn't help the cause. Jeter, Damon, Cano and Melky went 0-12.
The only real bright spot(s) from were Mark Melancon's 2.1 shutout frames in relief of ...
Yankees Lose To Rays And I Don’t Like It

The New York Yankees lost to the Tampa Rays by a score of 6-2. C.C. Sabathia started and got the loss.
At the start of the game they mentioned Johnny Damon’s home run total for the year. The obvious reason he has a lot of home runs is because of the wind tunnel.

This was his Melancon’s first appearance since July 10, but Peter Abraham reported that the layoff was for no apparent reason. Matsui doubled in the second run for the Yankees in the ninth, but a comeback was not in the cards. Full box score here. ...
Yanks Play Sloppy, Lose to Rays
YanksBlog.com —
This game looked promising for the Yankees before it started with CC Sabathia facing a struggling Scott Kazmir, but it wasn't meant to be as the Yankees failed to bring their "A" game to Tropicana Field and lost 62 to a desperate Rays team. Ugly defense was the culprit in this one along with some mediocre pitching from Sabathia. Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez both made throwing errors early on and Nick Swisher played a little hot potato in right field as he struggled with a couple plays out there.
