Boy, 12, gets response to W. Va. coaching inquiry
SOUTHINGTON - Joshua Irizarry may not have gotten the job as head coach of the West Virginia Mountaineers football team, but the response he received was more than enough to keep his dream alive. In December Irizarry wrote a letter to West Virginia University President Michael Garrison offering to coach the team after coach Rich Rodriguez left for the University of Michigan. Garrison ... Published 3/7/2008 by Tom Weir at Sports Scope
Is there anything more optimistic than a 12-year-old? That's the age of Joshua Irizarry, who applied for the head football coaching job at West Virginia left vacant by Rich Rodriguez' move to Michigan. The job went to Bill Stewart, who may want to take issue with the reply ...

Little Boy Applied To Be West Virginia Head Coach
Published 3/8/2008 by Matt Sussman at SPORTSbyBROOKS
Little Joshua Irizarry , fresh off perhaps renting “Little Big League,” applied to be the head football coach of West Virginia, and last month got an adorable rejection letter back from the college. THE (MERIDEN, CT) RECORD-JOURNAL reports that after the 12-year-old boy from Southington, Connecticut wrote to WVU applying to be the coach, WVU president Michael Garrison wrote back, saying “the position has been filled by an ‘equally qualified candidate.’ “ Not sure what incoming head coach Bill Stewart feels about that comparison. Apparently, Connecticut does contain at least one West Virginia fan. Little Joshua was reeling from a sports injury of his own (he’s a four-sport ...

12-Year-Old Fails To Land WVU Coaching Job
Published 3/9/2008 by Anthony Hall at MVN Outsider
Ah yes, I remember when I was 12 years old. A horribly awkward age…not yet a teenager, but not really a child, either. I mainly spent that year trading Pokemon cards, playing as a mediocre (but serviceable) shooting guard on a parks and rec basketball team, and learning to cope with the agony of being a Minnesota Vikings fan (that was the year they lost 41-0 to the Giants in the NFC Championship game…it’s been over seven years since that game, and it still stings). Anyways, one thing is certain: I didn’t have the ambitions at that age that 12-year-old Joshua Irizarry of Connecticut has. Irizarry applied to become the next head coach of the West ...

At Least He's Not Collecting Social Security
At a time when you've got two head coaches at prestigious universities who are way past 62, and battling it out to see who retires first, tt's nice to see that there's youth out there that wants to be involved. Though, it would probably help if he had already gone through puberty and could actually drive himself to the stadium. However, that didn't stop 12-year-old Joshua Irizarry from ...
