Here s what the World Wide Leader is reporting: A preliminary agreement has been reached between the teams for Atlanta to receive Teixeira and left-handed reliever Ron Mahay from Texas for catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia, minor league shortstop Elvis Andrus and two minor league pitchers. The Fort-Worth Star Telegram, citing a Rangers source, is reporting that the two pitchers Texas will receive are 19-year-old right-hander Nestali Feliz and another pitcher to be determined. The deal will be finalized once players medical records are reviewed. I m sure there s more on this in the coming hours, and hat tip goes to Martin over at ...
It Has Begun.....MLB Trade Deadline!!!
Published 7/30/2007 by Jack Cobra at Cobra Brigade
... It looks like Mark Teixeira is heading towards Hot-lanta with Ron Mahay (a former Cubs pitcher) in exchange for Jarrod Saltalamacchia and a couple of minor leaguers. Wow! I just don't think that's a good deal for the Braves for the following reasons. 1) Tex's contract runs out after next season. If they can't re-sign Andruw Jones, how are they going to re-sign Teixeira? 2) The Braves would have been better off trying to get Eric Gagne for their woeful bullpen. 3) This goes back to the contract status. Atlanta struggles to pay big money to players, so smart business sense says to keep Saltalamacchia while his salary is low and affordable. If Saltalamacchia turns out to be the player people say he's going to be....then he's going to be better than Teixeira (value-wise) over the next decade. 4) Ron Mahay is mediocre. I don't care what his stats are, I've seen him pitch. 5) While this makes Atlanta's offense ...

... First off, we're big Braves fans so we absolutely love the pending Mark Teixeira for Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Elvis Andrus deal. (Ed. Note: Stamos is a Mets fan. But Stamos can't access the edit button right now. So we're all being Braves fans today.) Sure, we lose a superb catcher is Salty and a sick shortstop prospect in Elvis, but we get a guy who can legitimately fuel us in a walkdown of the Mets. The Braves have been hitting well lately anyway, but it's not right to make Julio Franco play every day. In fact, it won't work. And Salty is a catcher, not a first baseman. But we have McCann. Who is an All Star for the next 10 years. We also land Ron Mahey who helps to take away from the early season loss of Mike Gonzalez as a lefty in the pen. The Rangers, who have been horrible this year, finally disproving the Buck Showalter Theory, needed to move Tex before the deadline since he was going to be a free ag ...

-P- The Braves are close to getting Mark Teixeira and reliever Ron Mahay from the Rangers in exchange for a package of young players that includes Jarrod Saltalamacchia, shortstop Elvis Andrus, and perhaps pitchers Matt Harrison and Neftali Feliz. This seems like a pretty good trade for both teams - the Braves weren't ever going to get the most out of Saltalamacchia, who's blocked by an even better young catcher in Brian McCann, but he's a potential star. (Weirdly, though, the Rangers already had two good catching prospects of their own, in Max Ramirez, who they just acquired from the Indians, and Taylor Teagarden, who just destroyed the Cal League before a recent promotion to Class AA.) ...

MLB Rumors: Deadline Edition

... Now that the long-rumored Mark Teixeira to the Braves deal is finally done (well, almost), we can look at the other possible blockbuster deals looming on the horizon. Huge names like Mark Loretta, Octavio Dotel, Al Reyes and Mike Lamb could move by tomorrow's 4 p.m. deadline. Those are names that could change the landscape of not only this season, not only your team, but of baseball as a whole! OK, so I'm kind of overselling this. There's probably not a whole lot left to happen, but here are the latest rumors circulating. ...

Dueling Dealings
Published 7/31/2007 by Mets2Moon at The Ballclub
... It behooves the Mets to solve their problems sooner rather than later, especially with the Braves set to deal for Texas's Mark Teixeira. Adding Tex to an already potent Atlanta lineup serves to make them all the more of a problem for the Mets down the stretch. The Mets are arguably still in need of one more large power threat in their lineup, preferably in one of the corner Outfield spots. Jermaine Dye's name had been bandied about, but that doesn't appear to be much of an attractive solution. It's certainly possible that if Reyes and Castillo serve to provide more RBI chances for the guys behind them, that the Mets could have solved their offensive woes in a more roundabout fashion. But that's not a guarantee, since Beltran, Wright and Delgado have all had maddeningly inconsistent seasons to this point, and have given us no reason to think this will change over the final two months of the season. It could end up that L ...

Braves Make Deals....Bobby Cox is Dying?
Published 8/1/2007 by Jack Cobra at Epic Carnival - Pop Culture, Sports, Celebrities, Babes, Rumors, Innuendo
... Bobby Cox is dying. He has to be. Otherwise why would the Braves make all of these moves? It's become obvious to me that since the Braves gave up a ton of prospects and a Salty Man they have, in essence, announced to the world that Bobby Cox is not long for this mortal world. The time is now says Braves GM John Schuerlholz. There is no time to dilly dally, or fiddle faddle around with. The Braves must win and they are going to use Bobby Cox's impending death as their battle cry. No longer will there be a 'Tomahawk Chop' at Turner Field (or whatever they are calling it), instead there will be literally tens, and maybe a hundred fans each game in a Grim Reaper costume. ...
