UFC has no Plans on Helping M-1
Published 12/20/2007 by MMA Movement at MMA MOVEMENT
In a recent discussion with Steve Sievert of the Houston Chronicle, Randy Couture claims that the UFC rejected an offer from M-1 to have him fight against Fedor Emelianenko. Randy told the Houston Chronicle , “ We got an official offer from M-1 to the UFC to do a co-promotion for the Couture-Emelianenko fight, and they (UFC) rejected that offer. Really, the only thing standing in the way for that fight right now is Dana and the UFC. Obviously, M-1 is happy to do a co-promotion like that. It only serves to help them. I think the UFC is looking at it the other way, and it’s like ...

Fedor Emelianenko And Randy Couture Want To Fight Each Other. Affliction May Make That Happen.
Published 7/20/2008 at FanIQ Blog
... For the fight to happen, Couture has to clear up some baggage that still exists with Dana White and the UFC. His contract expires on October 11, so if the fight can happen, it will likely happen soon after that. M-1 (Fedor's previous organization) had been trying to coordinate a co-promotion with the UFC to make the Couture-Fedor dream matchup happen, but White refused, likely because it would help M-1 gain more publicity, which White feels can only hurt the UFC. White and the UFC have been on a mission lately to crush all other competitors, doing everything ...

Not So Fast: Arlovski's Next Fight Will Be In The UFC
The people over at MMA Weekly do a great job generally, but a lot of their reporting out of the HD Net show was either misleading or wrong.   First, their story about Randy Couture falsely gave people the impression that Randy was claiming he could just wait until the end of the contract and then fight Fedor.  They quoted portions of what he said accurately, but also left things out. ...

Let me get this over with as quickly as I can. Dana White will never let Randy fight Fedor anywhere but the UFC, this is the guy who produced an hour special just to make Tito look like a punk (will we see a Dana vs Randy; Bad Blood special), he will do whatever it takes to stop this fight or at least postpone it until not one person left on this planet cares. As for Shamrock, it is never a ...

Adam Smith has a nice long post about Fedor/Randy and cooperation over at MMA Payout .  I think the overall gist of the column is right:  The damage from letting another group do this fight is bigger than the potential damage of running the fight and Fedor winning.  However, I think he assumes too much in terms of how big the fight will be if another group does it: ...
