So long, Mike and the Mad Dog

According to the incomparable Neil Best, the WFAN drive time show will be no more. Best is reporting that Chris Russo has left WFAN and Mike Francessa. This means Francessa will be flying solo now. I can see Russo moving to ESPN 1050, or even just sticking on YES and ditching radio entirely. Should be interesting to see how it plays out, if one cares about it. The Marquis...is no more.

It’s a sad day in New York sports talk radio history. These are the guys that started it all for duos. Despite their problems, they complimented each other very well.

Mike And…Nobody

... Mike and the Mad Dog are no more, as Chris Russo is leaving the station. He is likely headed to Sirius, leaving behind the more knowledgeable, but more pompous and boring, Mike Francesa. These two were often idiotic, typically maddening, regularly insulting and condescending, but always entertaining. Mike on his own for over 5 hours daily will be a mind-numbing experience, and sports radio in New York will suffer due to the loss of the overwrought stylings of Mr. Russo. If you do not believe me, listen to sports radio in other major cities. It will make you miss Mike and The ...

... Apparently all that chatter about one of Mike Francesa or Chris Russo leaving the top sports radio network in the country [WFAN] and top sports talk program [Mike & The Mad Dog] is more than innuendo or contract posturing. According to multiple reports, Chris Russo is leaving WFAN and most probably on his way to Sirius Satellite radio. ...

... Chris 'Mad Dog' Russo is done at WFAN. Rumors have him going to Sirius Satellite Radio. I haven't listened to Tweedledee and Tweedledum in years, so I couldn't care less, but I know he has a lot of listeners out there. From what I remember, both of them are far more tolerable on their own. ...

... from the inexplicably popular WFAN radio show. Mike Francesa will stay on as the afternoon host and, presumably, the YES Network will simulcast “Francesa on the FAN” in place of Mike and the Mad Dog. Newsday’s Neil Best has a lot more on this hot story, and we can take solace in the fact that sports radio in New York just got slightly more tolerable. ...
