Team USA blew out Venezuela 112-69 Wednesday night in their opener to the Tournament of the Americas, but the margin of victory and box score do not begin to explain the important on-court issues and great moments that populated this contest. Thoughts on Kobe, Kidd, the backup point guard situation, keeping two designated shooters, the manfreaks inside, and Bill Walton's insanity.

RedBaron +3That mohawk/fade conversation was hilarious. Walton was clearly feigning ignorance of black culture (his son is named after Maurice Lucas, for crissakes), and Mark Jones of all people was left to explain the barbershop scene. -
missgossip Oh ok, glad to know it was a joke (didn't see it myself). I was about to be real mad at him for not knowing what a fade was! -
tykeenan We wrote this in the post, obviously, but for my money Walton's best moment came when he praised Hugo Chavez. I wonder how many producers started screaming in his ear during that one.
