Washington Post: Bruce Arena fired
Published 11/5/2007 by Beau Dure at Sports Scope
Steven Goff cites four unidentified sources in reporting Bruce Arena's departure from New York after one and a half seasons. The Red Bulls were eliminated from the playoffs over the weekend, conceding the lone goal of the series against New England while shorthanded due to Juan Pablo Angel's injury. Arena built a college dynasty at Virginia before moving to D.C. United when MLS launched in 1996. He won two MLS titles and assorted trophies there before moving in 1998 to the U.S. national team, where he stayed for eight years. Update: The press release is out. Arena and ...

... | November 5th, 2007 It is turning out to be Black Monday for MLS coaches. First Frank Yallop departed the Galaxy for a gig far, far away in San Jose and now Bruce Arena has been given his pink slip by Red Bull New York. Talk about someone falling from grace quickly. Now, following a disappointing 2006 World Cup by the US national team and a first round playoff exit by New York this season, Da Bruce finds himself unemployed. Question of the day: If you are a manager looking for work, ...

Red Bull gives you wings

However, in Bruce Arena's case, it gave him the pink slip.I thought he'd get a chance to right the ship in New York, but it's obvious now that Red Bull is not here to play around. They want results, and they want them now. The caffeine is getting to them and their patience is gone. What does this mean for Bruce's babysitter/pool boy Claudio? I doubt a new coach would want to bring him back to limp around the field. So let's start the Il Bruico to LA rumors, shall we?
Coaching Changes

Well, the participants in MLS Cup haven’t even been decided and already we’ve got two. To nobody’s surprise, Frank Yallop and the Galaxy have parted ways, with Yallop returning to San Jose (LA didn’t even try to get any compensation out of it, very rare for that type of move). This makes it even more apparent that Landon Donovan will join him.
But now comes the shocking news (reported first by Goff, then by Ives) that Bruce Arena has been fired (although the official word is a resignation) after only one ...
