In a post for NJ.com, Dan Graziano relays details of the heated exchange he has with Carlos Delgado’s agent, David Sloane regarding Delgado’s contract terms.
Graziano, writes back to Sloane:
“The Mets are paying Delgado $12 million in salary this year plus a $4 million buyout on his 2009 option…I won’t hold my breath waiting for your apology”

... I am sure many of you could be familiar with this story, as I have seen it floating around some media outlets and blogs this morning. But in this article written by Dan Graziano of the Star Ledger, we learn of an “interesting” exchange between Graziano himself, and David Sloane (the agent for New York Mets’ first baseman Carlos Delgado). In a nutshell, Graziano had written what he believed to be the current terms of Delgado’s contract with the Mets, and Sloane sent him some interesting emails in reply disagreeing with Graziano. They were rude, ...

I always tell my clients never to type anything -- anything -- in an email that they wouldn't want to see blown up onto a 4'x6' poster board, placed on an easel, and shown to a jury. I think maybe somebody should have told that to Carlos Delgado's agent. Of course in this case the jury doesn't have 12 people on it, it has millions.

NJ.com - BREAKING NEWS: Delgado’s agent is insane From Dan Graziano’s Blog… Sloane wrote back at 12:40 p.m.: “Apologize this retard, he’s making 16 this year WITH an option for next year @ 16 or a buyout @ 4. Nice research by you but then I guess that whole concept of fact finding escapes you huh? They didn’t teach that on the short bus did they?” Seriously. Not making this up. I cut-and-pasted it. Couple of thoughts here: 1. I don’t respond when readers call me names, but I’m not surprised when it happens. But this guy is an AGENT. I mean, somebody you’d expect, even if ...

The writer and agent had a tense e-mail back-and-forth that only kept confirming what Graziano originally wrote was accurate: that Delgado is being paid $16 million this season by the Mets, $4 million of which comes from a 2009 buyout option and another $4 million of which comes from the Marlins as a condition of the 2005 trade that sent the first baseman to New York. ...

With a big thanks to Shyster, I present you with this, a wonderful email-based dialogue between a writer and Carlos Delgado's agent. Priceless. Remember the "I" in this is Star Ledger writer Dan Graziano: "Sorry I missed your 'joke.' This is what I wrote: 'the Mets are paying Delgado $12 million in salary this year plus a $4 million buyout on his 2009 option'I won't hold my breath waiting for your apology." Glad I didn't. Rosenthal dicusses how neither has a no-trade clause, their money is the same, and both have been unproductive. ...I have also been someone who has liked Sexson and still see some power in him, unlike Delgado could serve the Mets well. Also going away: Carlos Delgado’s batshit-crazy agent. Anyway, that’s a lot of scratch for whoever’s GM next year to pick up ...
