Wallace ranks No. 42
Obviously, You're Not a Golfer —
Hola, everyone... I'm back from vacation and ready to bear down for the coming weeks. Got some new tunes and newfound energy and some FSU-related frustration to work off. As an icebreaker to get back to blogging, I wanted to point out the start of a new Top 50 prospects by my very good friend and esteemed colleague Jonathan Mayo, over at MiLB.com. More specifically, I wanted to point out that he has Brett Wallace ranked No. 42. There's a writeup of Wallace, including some video, that you can see at this link. And the complete list will be posted 10 at a time at this link. Jonathan does terrific stuff, so check it out. -M, enjoying ...
Linkage, Cardinals of the Caribbean update
Future Redbirds —
Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com is rolling out his Top 50 prospect list, and has Brett Wallace at # 42. With his report, there’s a video of him in action.
Ryan Fagan of Yahoo! has some scout talk on the Walrus as well.
“Let’s put it this way: If he was a better third baseman, I think we’d be talking about him being ready for a starting job this spring. He’s that good…Problem is, defensively he’s a question mark. His agility, actually, is OK for as big as he is. He’s a pretty agile guy. He makes good plays—he can dive for the ball, pop up and get the throw to first—but when you’re projecting him, he’s not going to get any ...
Cardinals Community Top 30: The bigger picture & vote for No. 16
Bird Land —
SOUTH GRAND — One of the real problems with any club’s Top 30 is perspective. Whenever you rank players within one organization, you are, by definition, limiting the scope of how you judge — or perceive — their status as prospects.
The argument raging in the comments about David Freese and Allen Craig is a good example. Both have been voted as top-15 prospects here in the Community Top 30, and there have been several comments arguing that their places in the ranking — No. 5 for Freese and No. 14 for Craig — should be swapped. Either way, they have both been described as a Top-10 prospect. ...
Farm Aid: Tusked-mammal escapes from St. Louis zoo, could start at third for Cardinals
Roto Arcade —
Although many of you are preparing for massive minimal chicken wing consumption Sunday, the launch of Y! fantasy baseball is right around the corner. To prepare you for the upcoming draft season, the Noise will feature a lesser known prospect that has excellent odds of making an indelible fantasy impact this season every Friday through Opening Day. Obvious products David Price and Matt Wieters, and charitable Bon Jovi songs, need not apply. Move over Craig Stadler. There's a new "Walrus" in professional sports. Announced last week, Troy Glaus is expected ...

Matt Holliday back to causing giddiness around league
Big League Stew —
Hey, remember when an exiled-in-Oakland Matt Holliday used to be a target for our sympathy? No mas. Though Roy Halladay has stolen much of Holliday's trading deadline thunder, the similarly-named slugger is again riling up other fans with the possibility of him being traded to one of their teams. Tigers fans have their eyes on him. Yankees fans might be interested. Maybe Giants fans, too. Meanwhile, ESPN's Buster Olney is reporting that the Cardinals and A's are talking about a deal that'd would send prospect Big Brett Wallace to Oakland and set ...
Matt Holliday trade to the Cardinals may be finalized soon
FanIQ Blog —
From ESPN, according to "league sources":
The Athletics and Cardinals are close to completing a trade that would send outfielder Matt Holliday to St. Louis in exchange for third baseman Brett Wallace, outfielder Shane Peterson and right-handed pitcher Clayton Mortensen
Wallace is one of the Cardinals' brightest hitting prospects, but there are some questions about him playing 3B long term, and whispers that he may have to move to 1B. Obviously, the Cardinals are all set there for a decade or so, but Wallace has a very bright future at the plate, regardless.
Peterson was a ...

'Tis the season to be dealing, so in a recurring feature, Big
League Stew analyzes the bigger off-season trades made around the
majors. This is Fair Trade. What's the deal: On Friday afternoon, St. Louis and Oakland agreed to a trade that will send outfielder Matt Holliday and $1.5 million to the Cardinals in exchange for a trio of young players that includes third baseman Brett Wallace, one of St. Louis' most prized prospects. What the Cardinals are getting: The Busch Stadium faithful have long coveted a corner outfielder who could provide ...

Friars Sizzle Nats
Center Field Gate —
The San Diego Padres capitalized on four Washington Nationals’ errors Friday night to take the first of a three-game set from our Anacostia Boys, 6-2. After taking two of three from the Mets, the Nats reverted to the sloppy defense that had characterized the first part of their season: two errant throws to first base, a dropped pop-up in foul territory and the misplay of a rolling double in the left field corner. That’s one error on Garrett Mock, one on Jason Bergman, one error on catcher Josh Bard and one on left fielder Adam Dunn. “It was just a bad effort,” interim Manager Jim Riggleman said after the game. ...
