Ray Durham To Brewers
MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com —
... ESPN reports the Brewers have acquired Ray Durham. It's not yet known what they received in return, although according to the Milwaukee Sentinel, OF prospect Darren Ford was removed from his class-A Brevard County starting lineup yesterday "with indications he is being traded." MLBTR covered movement on this yesterday.
Durham, a switch hitter, brings his bat to the Brewers bench and could take over Rickie Weeks' spot on the depth chart if Weeks continues to struggle in the ...
Brewers Acquire Durham
The Transaction Guy —
According to Buster Olney, the Milwaukee Brewers have acquired 36-year old second baseman Ray Durham from the San Francisco Giants in return for minor-leaguers Steven Hammond and Darren Ford.
Durham is having a very good year, hitting .293 with 3 HR’s 32 RBI’s and posting a .385 OBP. He is making $7,500,000 this year. The question now will be if the Brewers are going to hand Durham the starting second-baseman gig or if they will use him to put pressure on the struggling Rickie Weeks.

... spent the last five and a half seasons playing for the San Francisco Giants. I say spent because as of this morning, Ray was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers . Of course, considering that the Brewers are about to finish up a three-game set in San Francisco, Ray won't have very far to go to join his new team. Talks for Durham between the Giants and Brewers were first reported last night, and the deal was finalized this morning with the Brewers sending prospects ...

Bleed Cubbie Blue —
... Stupid Cardinals. And the Brewers, who acquired Ray Durham from the Giants this afternoon, are leading the Giants 2-0 early in their game. Durham has hit very well against the Cubs in his career, including in the seven Cubs/Giants games already this season, and with ten Cubs/Brewers games left, the Brewers clearly are trying to take advantage of that. Rickie Weeks, hitting .218, wasn't cutting it for Milwaukee and they're obviously looking at Durham as a short-term fix. ...

Brewers Trade for Ray Durham
Bucs Dugout —
... The Brewers have acquired Ray Durham from the Giants for practically nothing--the Giants only get fringe prospects Steve Hammond and Darren Ford, neither of whom figure to have much of a career. Good work by the Brewers: Durham is pretty limited at this stage of his career, but he is posting a .385 OBP this year while Rickie Weeks struggles to stay above the Mendoza Line. Weeks is still a pretty promising player, but letting Durham start a couple days a week seems like a smart thing to do. ...
Brewers Continue Surge, Nab 2B Durham
MLB FLEECE FACTOR: Providing MLB rumors and deciding who gets FLEECED. —
... According to ESPN, the Milwaukee Brewers have acquired veteran second baseman Ray Durham from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for two prospects (Darren Ford and Steve Hammond). The Brewers have been riding Rickie Weeks, hoping that his overwhelming talent would click and take over, but it has not. Weeks has continued to struggle this season (he is hitting just .218), and as a result they nab a veteran to potentially fill that void. According to Brewers’ manager Ned Yost, Weeks will remain the starter, with Durham playing a “few days a week”. I am ...
AaronGleeman.com — ... On a somewhat related note, the Brewers acquired Ray Durham from the Giants over the weekend for a pair of marginal prospects. Durham is 36 years old and has lost much of his range defensively at second base, but he's hitting .293/.385/.414 and may have been an interesting option if the Twins were willing to slide Alexi Casilla to shortstop. Casilla has played almost strictly second base in the majors, but saw the majority of his action at shortstop in the minors and certainly has a shortstop-caliber arm. ...
The Durham Deal
ShysterBall —
I doubt that Milwaukee picking up Ray Durham is going to make the Cubs break out in cold sweats, but he's an upgrade over what Weeks has been giving them, and having him around gives Yost a lot more flexibility that he might not have otherwise have had. It also makes perfect sense for San Francisco to dump him inasmuch as he's not the kind of guy you're gonna get picks for if you let him walk when his contract is up at the end of the season (offer a 37 year-old second baseman arbitration and he's more than likely to accept). ...
Weekend Miscellany
Watching the Game —
... There was also a trade over the weekend. The San Francisco Giants traded Ray Durham to Milwaukee for two prospects. The prospects weren't premium ones, but they might be useful down the road. One is pitcher Steve Hammond, who is left handed and strikes a good percentage of batters out, so that will probably earn him some play at some point. The other is outfielder Darren Ford, who profiles as a pinch runner/defensive replacement/fourth or fifth outfielder at the big league level. These guys aren't top prospects, but they are a bit more than organizational filler, too. ...

C70 At The Bat —
... Now the Cardinals get to take on the Brewers. Both teams will say this is just another series. To some degree, it is. But the two teams only play each other twice more this season, if my examination of the schedule is correct. I don't think it's any coincidence that the Brewers made the move for Ray Durham right before this series. A Cardinal victory in the series would really put some doubt in the minds of the Brewers, especially with both of their aces going in the series, and it would give St. Louis some breathing room in the wild-card race as ...

Walkoff Walk —
Before hastily leaving the Walkoff Walk offices on Friday, I posed the question: "(Which) team will we no longer be considering for the playoffs after this weekend: Yankees, A's, Braves, Marlins, Rangers, or the Brewers?" Your answers included: "All of them", "Rangers, duh", and of course "Why are you leaving so early?"
Well, the weekend's up and the Yankees, Marlins, and Brewers (Ray Durham!) are still very much alive, but what of the rest?

Durham Leaves San Francisco; 45-Year Old X-Men Vie For Open 2B Slot
Sons of Steve Garvey —
On Sunday, the San Francisco Giants traded away 36-year old Ray Durham to the Brewers for two minor leaguers.
In July, the Uncanny X-Men celebrate their 45-year anniversary and 500th issue by uprooting themselves from their Westchester, NY home, and moving to San Francisco.
Coincidence? I think not. I think the X-Men, especially the older ones, think they might have a shot at the Giants' starting lineup. After all, they love 40-year olds in SF!
I'm personally hoping they're picking up Pixie, whose powers ...
