... have a big upper-minors guy, and Fox Sports now reports that the Dodgers are out of the running.
Meanwhile, LaPorta tellingly was not in the Double-A Huntsville lineup for tonight's game, while other rumored guys like Escobar and Gamel are in that lineup — consistent with Hardricourt's report that the Brewers have drawn the line at including two elite prospects for a three-month rental. [Jay]

The 1,501st post on this modest blog is a noteworthy one: The CC Sabathia deal is done , according to Tom Haudricourt. Sabathia will be in the starting rotation on Tuesday at Miller Park against the Rockies. That's Manny Parra's normal turn, so I'm sure there will be some re-jiggering of the starters. Has Bushie pitched well enough to save his spot as a starter? Does McClung go back to long relief, on account of his dead arm? Will the Brewers un-retire Capellan's #52? So many questions.

... season with a 3.83 ERA and 123 strikeouts. Obviously, there are two sides to this trade: C.C. is coming and C.C. is going. I'm sure this fires up Brewers fans, who've had to deal with a shaky rotation led by Ben Sheets and ....Jeff Suppan? Then there are the Cleveland fans, who have an unknown prospect and a top farm kid to possibly make an impact in the near future. Yay rebuilding! MIL J-S: Brewers, Indians agree on Sabathia
Published 7/6/2008 at BBTF's Baseball Primer Newsblog
MIL J-S: Brewers, Indians agree on Sabathia I just was told by a reliable club source that the Brewers have a deal in place with Cleveland for left-hander C.C. Sabathia, contingent on the paperwork being done and medical records exchanged. But believe me, folks, that’s a deal. All that other stuff is formality. All I know so far is that top prospect Matt LaPorta is in the deal. I was told two lower-level minor leaguers also are included. The Brewers refused to include another top prospect such as Alcides Escobar or Mat Gamel. Look for Sabathia to make his debut for the ...

C.C. SABATHIA TO THE BREWERS But he could have come to Boston, if the Sox ponied up just $2 million for Matt LaPorta - reportedly the centerpiece of the deal. Pocket change for the Sox and two of the organization's many talented A-ballers could have gotten this deal done for the Olde Towne Team. And we would be even closer to planning where to stand for yet another parade.

Two other prospects are expected to join LaPorta going over to Cleveland, but there is currently no word as to who those prospects are.
