le basketbawl I knew that guy as an idiot, and I had just missed these during the draft but that solidifies him as the moron I initially thought he was. -
RC stuuuuuuuupid. But guys I really think he is a special piece. Guys I think he is a steal as a big man. I think he should have been the 9nth pick. And I am so mad at seatle, who took a guard. Oh gosh, they need post presence. I still don't know why they traded rashard lewis. -
Ryne Nelson Does anyone else see the Nets as a force in 2010? Brooklyn (if they can ever get the go-ahead to build) will be a very popular destination for superstar free-agents. -

Brook Lopez is a special guy

While waiting in Green Room through nine picks, Brook Lopez makes some excellent sound bites, including this gem: "I'm gonna be like Brady Quinn..."
Brook Lopez is the next Brady Quinn… well not quite
Hail Mary Jane —
Former Stanford Center Brook Lopez was predicted by many to be a top 5 pick during last nights draft. So much for that. He ended up going at number 10 to the New Jersey Nets. This is a video of him sharing his thoughts about how bored he was during the process, how he and Brady Quinn have a lot in common and how he doesn’t really know much about his new team. Funny stuff. Thanks to Odenized for the video.

A day later, what was Brook Lopez thinking?
Ball Don't Lie —
A day after the Draft ends, and I'm pretty shot. We'll have
a post-Draft chat later today, and the obligatory team grading column that
needs to be cut by a few trillion words, but my wrists (quite literally) need a
break after six and a half hours of live blogging on Thursday.
I'd like to invite you to take a look at both sessions, one
for the 1993 NBA Draft, and one for the 2008 version. Major thanks to all that
took part.
In the meantime, I'm still a little gobsmacked after being
introduced to the Lopez twins last night, especially Brook. His Napolean
Dynamite-act was one thing ("This is ...
NBA Draft hangover
tonyblogs.net - Sports news, humor, videos and prognostications. —
Apparently I spoke a little too soon in my second-round Draft thoughts post, because Joey Dorsey won't be in Portland after all. The Blazers traded him to Houston with Darrel Arthur for Nicholas Batum. Dorsey will be a nice addition to a Houston team that, like Portland, could use an extra big guy.
Here's some more NBA Draft stuff to get your morning started:
- Brook Lopez was wearing a mic last night and ESPN put together a montage of his footage. There's really no setup needed, but the guy doesn't even know who the Nets coach is...and he's about to play there. ...
NBA Draft Results: Brook Lopez (Mic'd Up) Falls To New Jersey Nets At 10
FanIQ Blog —
Even though they are both seven-feet tall, it's still rather remarkable that twins Brook and Robin Lopez were both drafted in the Top 15 of Thursday's NBA Draft. There mother must be proud of that accomplishment, however, I think very few Stanford grads were proud their performance at Madison Square Garden.
Brook Lopez, expected to possibly go 4th to Seattle, must not have realized there was a mic near by.
Enjoy as we get a Napoleon Dynamite-esque "This is BORING," followed by the best line of the night, "I'm going to be like Brady ...
I can't believe I got rejected from Stanford
Pure Point —
The Lopez twins did a great impression of being functionally retarded last night.
First, Brook Lopez admits while being mic'ed up that he had no idea who the head coach, GM, or President of the Nets (the team that drafted him was). Even when prompted Lawrence Frank, he still seems clueless.
[H/T Odenized for the video]
Next, after being compared to Sideshow Bob on ESPN's Draftcast, Robin Lopez replies, "I'll take that as a complement (sic)".
This guy went to Stanford and he doesn't know how to use compliment/complement? I hate athletes.

Brook Lopez: 'I'm Going To Be Like Brady Quinn' [NBA Draft]

Brook Lopez May Never Be Mic'd Up Again, Which Would Be a Shame

Lots of fun goings on at the Draft last night, (read through the amazing 5-hour live-blog if you missed any of it) but this video of Brook Lopez being mic'd up might have been my favorite moment. WaitingForNextYear —
... the world. During a segment that was glorifying the fact that he slipped down the draft board a bit further than anticipated, Brook gave us all a quick flashback to last season’s NFL draft. While I have a feeling that Brady’s situation was a little worse given the amount of time between picks in his draft, it’s safe to say that Quinn will forever be linked to any player who doesn’t get selected in the top 10, yet is invited to the “green room” of his respective sport. (Fist pump to Odenized for the grab) Related Content ...
David Stern Forces Larry Bird to Play Dumb
FanHouse —
Filed under: Pacers, NBA Draft, NBA RumorsOne of the most awkward moments of last night's draft not involving Brook Lopez being mic'd up and Darrell Arthur stuck in the green room was Larry Bird being interviewed. He was stiff as a board and absolutely refused to comment on the "Jermaine O'Neal for T.J. Ford" deal, writing it off as pure "speculation." As I watched it, I couldn't figure out why Bird would continue to play things so close to the vest. I mean, everyone knows it's going to go down, right? What's ...

All seemed well in the Twin Cities and then without warning there was devastation, the taste of vomit and Kevin Love where there had once been optimism and O.J. Mayo.

CHEECH AND CHONG LOPEZ
Epic Carnival —
by Mac G, Mac G's World It is always intriguing to find out how little some jocks know about their sport compared to obsessive sports nerds. Most of us could rattle off every prominent member of a sports franchise's leadership but NBA draft prospect Brooke Lopez seems downright stunned that Lawrence Frank is the New Jersey Nets coach. Brooke's twin brother Robin came off as bewildered during a NBA draft day interview before he was selected and I was unable to locate the ESPN video. However, I did find the following video of the Lopez twins rambling on and ...
Brook Lopez - California to the Core
NetsDaily Blog —
To those with an untutored East Coast ear, when Brook Lopez speaks…they hear this…dude.
But Brook Lopez is no surfer dude, no Jeff Spicoli. That’s not to say he’s any less West Coast than, say, the Beach Boys. He is a Californian, born and bred, a product of Los Angeles, Fresno and Palo Alto, a Stanford man…and not incidentally the best big man prospect in the 2008 NBA Draft, a guy noted not for his goofiness, but rather his toughness—even meanness–on the court.
Forget the surfer accent, the well known fascination with all things Disney, the desire to be ...
Adventures in the Bobcats Draft War Room
FanHouse —
by Tom Ziller Filed under: Bobcats, Nets, NBA DraftThere have been long-lasting rumors that Charlotte killed a potential 2007 trade that would have sent then-Wolf Kevin Garnett to Golden State by picking Brandan Wright instead of Al Thornton at #8 in the '07 draft. (Details after the jump.) But chaos is a tradition for the 'Cats. Dave D'Alessandro of the Newark Star-Ledger has the story of Charlotte's 2008 draft day adventures. Last June 26, the Charlotte Bobcats were on the clock at No. 9, and they made it clear to [Brook] Lopez's representatives that he ...
