Detroit announced today the addition of Double-A Erie manager Tom Brookens to the Tigers' coaching staff.
Or another way to put it is: manager Jim Leyland's possible successor has been called up to the big leagues to a bit of experience.
It's not that Brookens is the only one who could take over after Leyland is gone -- his contract runs through 2011 by the way. It's possible Arizona bench coach Kirk Gibson could be in the mix in the future. He wants to manage in the MLB, for sure. It's always possible, though unlikely, Cubs bench coach Alan Trammell could have a second go-around. Or it could be someone from outside the ...
