Kobe Bryant scored 25 second half points as the Lakers came back from a 65-45 third quarter deficit to beat the Spurs 89-85. Tim Duncan repeatedly trapped Bryant on pick and roll only to see Bryant lob passes over his head to Pau Gasol for easy hoops; in last year's Finals, Duncan played off of the weak-shooting LeBron James and denied him the opportunity to make such passes.

Guards, defense will be the difference in NBA's Final Four
wcbias.com 5/21/2008 — A lot is going to be made over the next couple weeks about the power forwards remaining in the Final Four of the NBA playoffs. Kevin Garnett. Rasheed Wallace. Tim Duncan. Pau Gasol. It doesn’t get much better than those four No. 4s. But as Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals showed, the 4s won’t be the lone determining factor in these series. Guards and defense will be the difference.

NBA Wrap: Ginobili breaks out and leads Spurs to game 3 win — Hail Mary Jane
Lakers 84 - Spurs 103 : It was only a matter of time before the struggling Manu Ginobili broke out of his slump and got back on track. In the first two games he struggled through injuries, frustration and plenty of missed shots but in game 3 he came back with 30 points to lead the Spurs to the 103-84 win .
Manu had help. Tim Duncan finished the game with 22 points and 21 rebounds and ...
Manu the Magnificent: Ginobili Stars as Spurs Roll in Game Three — 20 Second Timeout
The high energy version of Manu Ginobili finally showed up in the Western Conference Finals--and not a moment too soon for the San Antonio Spurs, who are still very much alive after his 30 points in 31 minutes propelled them to a 103-84 victory over the L.A. Lakers, L.A.'s worst loss of the 2008 playoffs. Ginobili's injuries have been the subject of much discussion--though to his credit he has ...
They Don’t Have Kobe — Lakers Library
This is not the bold statement it would have been back in either the first or second round. By now, it should be clear.
The Lakers will win the championship this year.
You want a bold statement? I’ll take it one step further: It doesn’t matter who they face in the Finals.

No More Butter Knives: Kobe Bryant and His "Guns" Shoot Down Spurs — 20 Second Timeout
The L.A. Lakers never trailed for the fourth time in this year's playoffs en route to a 101-71 game two victory over the San Antonio Spurs, the worst loss by the defending champions in this postseason. Kobe Bryant had game-high totals in points (22), assists (five) and plus/minus rating (+24); he also had five rebounds and he shot 10-17 from the field. Lamar Odom continued to thrive as the ...
One-on-One with the Akron Beacon Journal’s Brian Windhorst: A Cavalier Attitude Exclusive — Cleveland Cavaliers
Back in the ’90s, nobody in the media was closer to Michael Jordan than Ahmad Rashad. In the early part of this decade, nobody was closer to Allen Iverson than Stephen A. Smith (a little too close, from Stephen A.’s perspective).
Although I don’t know if the Akron Beacon Journal’s Brian Windhorst has reached that kind of level with LeBron James yet, I do know beyond ...
Worst of the Night: May 21, 2008 — Basketbawful
Manu Ginobili: In today's NBA Closer column , I called Manu "Shoeless Joe Ginobili" because it sure seemed like he was trying to throw the game: 10 points, 3-for-13 shooting and 4 turnovers. And at least three of those turnovers came during critical stages of the fourth quarter. Manu kept running into traps or jumping into the air with nowhere to go and then just throwing the ball up for ...
Lakers - Spurs Game One: Better late than never Kobe! — The Hoop Doctors
May 22nd, 2008 - Dr. Browntorious
After watching Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals tonight between the LA Lakers and San Antonio Spurs , I felt like I just had some strange form of NBA déjà vu.
Haven’t the Spurs already played this team? Hmmm….
Oops wait, their opponents jerseys are a different color this time. First they played a purple team, and then they played a blue ...
Jackson Drumming Up A Little Busyness — Lakernoise
The Lakers first heard it during the 2000 playoffs.
The coach beat his tom-tom and chanted on game days. The instrument had routine purpose in the lives of the Native Americans, and Phil Jackson was determined it would have the same for his Los Angeles Lakers.
“I guess the drum is basically for gathering in terms of [...]
Crying For Help — Cleveland Cavaliers
After hearing Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert’s recent comments - comments that sounded more like apathy than confidence, really - it seems like LeBron James is going to have to do a lot more than just make blanket statements in order to upgrade this garbage roster that has been put around him.
Days after the Cavs’ 97-92 loss to the Celtics in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference ...
Western Conference Finals Preview: (1) Lakers vs. (3) Spurs — FanHouse
Biggest Reason You Should Watch : This match-up is the closest thing that the NBA has had to a consistent rivalry this decade. This is the fifth time since the 2000-01 season that these teams will meet in the playoffs: There's history here, people. The Spurs are also still the defending champs, and going through the top-seeded Lakers to get back to the Finals would be a pretty strong ...
Los Angeles Versus San Antonio Preview — 20 Second Timeout
Western Conference Finals #1 Los Angeles (57-25) vs. #3 San Antonio (56-26) Season series: Tied, 2-2 San Antonio can win if …Tim Duncan is dominant enough offensively against single coverage that the Lakers are forced to double team him, opening up opportunities for perimeter shooters to make three pointers. Another key factor will be how successful Tony Parker is at breaking down the Lakers' ...
Ill-Advised NBA Conference Finals Predictions — Signal to Noise
Lakers over Spurs, 7 games - These teams are so evenly matched in my eyes now that it’s kind of eerie. Tim Duncan and Pau Gasol will draw each other on the match-up, you’ve got your slashers in Kobe and Manu (although Kobe will likely draw Bruce Bowen as a defender), you’ve got solid bench players on both sides. Rationale and reason would dictate that the Spurs should ...

Image details: San Antonio Spurs v New Orleans Hornets - Game Seven served by picapp.com
Man, I can’t stand the San Antonio Spurs. Maybe it’s Gregg Popovich’s barking from the bench. I’m pretty sure if that if I was in traffic and merging into one lane and the car next to me is driven by Mr. Popovich, he would cut me off without much of a thought. In fact, I ...
Sixers offseason priority numero uno: PF — Philadelphia 76ers
Watching these NBA playoffs has changed my offseason outlook for the Sixers. They finished the season with a nice upside and find themselves in position to make some serious noise this summer. While that doesn’t include the draft lottery, it does involve some cap room, a young nucleus in contract negotiations and the trigger finger of our new man of accountability - Ed Stefanski.
