The Red Sox placed pitcher Clay Buchholz on the 15-day disabled list with a broken fingernail on his right middle finger. The Red Sox called up outfielder Jonathan Van Every from Pawtucket to replace Buchholz on the roster. Van Every was needed because of the wrist injury suffered by right fielder J.D. Drew in Tuesday night's loss to the Orioles. [link]

Clay Buchholz has been placed on the DL and Jon Van Every has been called up to the majors. A broken fingernail on his right middle finger is what caused Buchholz to be put on the disabled list. This could be to heal his finger or it may just be a phantom DL trip to keep Buchholz's innings down, as he only pitched 148 total innings last season.
