And One Why is this happening?-
RedsArmy Some people have never seen some of the things KG does... and they're either misinterpreting them... or they simply can't appreciate them.
What really kills me is that KG is everything fans want in an athlete: passionate about winning, cordial to the fans and in the media, and NEVER in police blotter. Yet now, all of a sudden, he's some kind of bad guy?

jbish828 It's not that he's a bad guy. He's just annoying as hell. There was an article this week, maybe ESPN, about how he only calls out and gets in the face of scrub players (like the white kid on the Hawks in last year's playoffs) and never takes his intensity to Duncan, Amare, Yao or any of the best NBA big men. That makes his intensity look like bullying.
I like his commercials, but he's obnoxious on the court.
-
And One Jbish: Aren't you supposed to be obnoxious on the court?-
jbish828 I can't recall a great coach ever telling his players to be obnoxious. It's one thing to be a persistent defender, which could be seen as annoying. It's entirely different to wave your fat finger 2 inches from another players face, scream at players as the come down the court and clap in people's faces. It just makes him look stupid.-
And One Gotcha. Red - thoughts?

RedsArmy Obnoxious always came natural to me...
I'll just say this. I've played a little ball in my life and I've been coached by a couple of former NBA guys... and each of them taught me some of the nastiest tricks in the book. If you think players aren't told to be obnoxious, you're nuts. Players are told do whatever they can do to be effective.
As for KG wagging his finger at Calderon... or getting down on all 4's against Bayless (by the way... he did it to David West last year, too)... why the hell didn't those little guards blow by him?
KG's "antics" fire up the team and the crowd... and throw the other team off. If you want to think that makes him a jerk... then fine. But there's a big difference between what he does and being a jerk.
-
Leapfrog0 KG has turned into a cultural phenominon and like it was said in the article it is because he is finally on a championship team. Personally, I can not stand the guy, he drives me insane, but I will give him props for being one of the best big men in the game. All he needs to do is calm his attitude down a little bit. I can understand getting on his players for blowing a 25 pt. lead but getting on all fours for a taunt, ridicoulus. -
The Zoner "Some people have never seen some of the things KG does... and they're either misinterpreting them... or they simply can't appreciate them."
The guy has been in the league forever. People have seen everything he does. I wouldn't judge him as a person, but it's perfectly fine to judge someone's actions. And some of the things he has done this year are unsportsmanlike, to say the least. And if anyone can point to him doing these types of things in Minnesota, please do...
There is a tremendous difference between playing with swagger and spirit and doing things that can be construed as being a jerk or a poor sport.
People love KG for the former. It's why they get so upset about the latter.
-
RedsArmy Jeff Van Gundy, who I think we'd all agree is more involved in the NBA than we will ever be, said on the air that he had never seen KG down on all 4's before.
But it has happened countless times. It's happened multiple times this season alone. He did it a few times last year.
So some people really have never seen some of the things KG does. They're reacting to something he does fairly regularly as if he's doing them for the first time.

ballerblogger Let em' hate.
I can't get enough of KG's antics.
Are they exemplary? Probably not. I wouldn't want to see high school kids emulating KG by clapping at their opponents or crawling towards them on defense.
But this is the NBA. KG plays with more passion than some teams combined. If that's the way he chooses to express himself than so be it. It serves its purpose of firing up his teamates, dividing his opponent's focus, and igniting the crowd.
Call me when KG physically harms someone with is intensity. Until then, I think we should all appreciate this guy for who is because there's never been a player like him before and there probably won't be a player like him again.
-
jbish828 Don't get me wrong. I like his intensity. I wish my Grizz had half of his intensity. I just can't get to the point of saying crawling on all fours and waving his fingers in others' faces is intensity.... It's just obnoxious and unsportsmanlike. -
Ben Q. Rock KG's earned the right to be a bit of a fill-in-the-blank. I mean, he's one of the greatest players ever. Think less of him if you want--I know I do, ever so slightly--but also know that he might be the only guy in the league who can get away with it.
At least the Celtics have Ray Allen to balance KG out.

No, he just watched him. In fact, Bynum stopped just short of clasping his hands together so the guy could jump off them like a trampoline, the way you boost a child over a fence. Or holding up a “10″ card to praise the dunk.
