Anti-Blog Movement Recruits Another Soldier

... lashing out against the world of sports blogs. Much of it is seemingly unprovoked and out of left field. As a blogger myself, I can’t help but take some of these comments personally, even though these folks are not talking about WFNY and have almost certainly never seen our humble little abode. Just in the past few months we’ve seen the likes of ESPN personality Steven A Smith and Dallas Maverick owner Mark Cuban react in a negative fashion towards bloggers. Now, Bob Costas has joined the cause. Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald wrote an article today ...
Bob Costas Thinks You're A Loser [Bob Costas Disappoints Us]

... . The guy's worldly enough to recognize that fans having more of a voice and more media options is a good thing, right? He's certainly not the type of guy who would use that old, so-tired-it's-almost-awake-again trope of the "blogger in his parents' basement" thing, right? Right? Nope. ...
Bob Costas thinks you are stupid

... a certain level of respect, it is no longer a "given" that you have it. You must continue to earn it as if you never had it in the first place. Thanks for your concern Bob, but I think we listeners and viewers will decide for ourselves who is worthy of our respect and time, not you. I know you'd prefer to make our decisions for us, but we like this idea of responding directly to stuff like, say, you calling bloggers "idiots." Bob Costas: Man of the people. I'll close with The Big Lead's comments on Costas' whine fest, because I read about this first at his site: ...

... a pathetic get-a-life loser, but now that pathetic get-a-life loser can piggyback onto someone who actually has some level of professional accountability and they can be comment No. 17 on Dan Le Batard's column or Bernie Miklasz' column in St. Louis. That, in most cases, grants a forum to somebody who has no particular insight or responsibility. Most of it is a combination of ignorance or invective. Sigh. Bob Costas Is Not A Fan Of Sports Blogs
Published 3/14/2008 by Anthony Hall at MVN Outsider
... If you’re gonna rip us, at least be adequately informed.
Delving deeper into his comments, the utter ridiculousness of his assertions becomes even more apparent. You mean to tell me, Bob, that only a select few have the right to share an opinion about sports? That any thoughts a fan expresses are automatically invalid, because they’re not a part of this select few? Talk about an outdated, old-fashioned, and downright irrelevant perspective.

Confessions of an ex-Costashead.

...
So what do I think of Bob Costas and his original opinion about bloggers?
Betrayal. Arnold to America, Brutus to Ceasar, Clinton to Democracy, now Costas to me. Time has taken its toll on Robert Quinlan “Bob” Costas. Can Costas beat back father time and become something more than an egomaniacal joke? The answer lies ahead in what many are calling the last stand of the King of Doucheville.
And that’s all you need to know.

Bob Costas thinks we're idiots and losers sitting in our parents' basements

By now, most have seen the intro and associated "town hall" featuring Bob Costas, Buzz Bissinger, Braylon Edwards, and Deadspin founder, Will Leitch.
If you haven't seen the video yet, head on over to Awful Announcing.
Because of Bissinger's tirades, Costas actually came off as moderately temperate in his denouncements of the sports blog world.
We're guessing Costas' intended purpose was to educate, inform, and debate about the current state of sports journalism. Most know this "intended purpose" went wayward when Bissinger opened his mouth for ...
