So why are you not allowed to bunt in an exhibition? Is that some sort of "unwritten" unwritten rule?

I think the rule is, Wagner doesn't have to play defense in exhibition games.

Keeping him healthy, well that's another story. Jose is going through growing pains, but I get the idea last season taught him a lesson he won't soon forget. Duaner Sanchez is back and is probably another one who learned a valuable lesson last year. Don't know what I like less, the fact that Heilman's gotta make like an "American Idol" contestant or the fact that he coughed up a run against a bunch of kids. * And what was with Billy Wagner getting all bent out of shape after some college kid tried to bunt on him? Billy Wagner Resists Urge To Plunk College Player

NEWSDAY uncovers a fantastic quote from Billy Wagner regarding the Mets’4-4 tie with the Michigan Wolverines. Apparently the closer was thisclose to chuckin’ one high and hard at UM batter Kevin Cislo . Cislo was attempting to bunt with one out and a runner at second base, and that was enough for Wagner to go into a tizzy. Later he told reporters “If he got that bunt down, I would have drilled the next guy […] Play to win against Villanova.” The Wolverines had just come off a three-game sweep of Villanova, so no, they can’t beat them again. How can anyone fault college ...

He's been having a little more trouble staying fresh all the way to September for the last two years, and he's not going to blow you away with a 100+ mph heater anymore. What he can provide, though, is a solid fastball change-up combo, a good mentoring influence to the younger relievers, and a beanball for Wolverine, Kevin Cislo . If Wagner couldn’t handle this situation it’s no wonder he’s blown so many games the last few years and he fits in with that clubhouse that produced one of the most epic collapses in history.
