From The Rink —
... UPDATE TSN also reports that Burke is essentially a free agent and able to talk to other teams as of today, which leads me to believe he will not finish the season in Anaheim. ...
Bye Bye Burkie
Battle of California —
Well, so much for that Bucket List. I certainly didn't see this coming this fast, and I don't have much time for reaction today, but here's the link. I'll have a proper good-bye for the guy at some point, but for now, welcome to the new Ducks' GM, Bob Murray. Sleek = Stunned. Go Ducks. [Update, 11:40 am. Per the Star's Damien Cox (link via KK), Burke reportedly will stay on as a consultant with the Ducks until the end of this season. More to come after the press conference.]

Brian Burke out as Ducks GM. What does this mean for YOU?
The Two-Line Pass —
Brian Burke has been let go as general manager of the Anaheim Ducks for no readily apparent reason.
Details to follow at the afternoon press conference, or so they say.
Interesting to note, though, that in this week’s Hockey Notes from the Boston Globe, Kevin Paul Dupont pondered what was next for Burkie, whose contract was up after this season. In fact, Burke even said he had a substantial offer on the table to return as Ducks GM. His return was unlikely, however, since, “Family issues, related to his first marriage, would be eased greatly if he worked closer to Boston, where he lived and worked for years as a ...

Ruutu gone for two
Habs Inside/Out —
Jarkko Ruutu has been suspended two games for his elbow to the head of Maxim Lapierre last night (note BGL going toward Ruutu but impeded by the outstretched body of Max, which slows him down enough for Francis Bouillon to get there first).
This will make our own Eric Engels and a lot of other people happy.
Guy Carbonneau said after the game he hoped the league would review a flagrant head shot.
The league did, and Ruutu is gone ... till the next time.
• Brian Burke is out as GM in Anaheim. Next stop: Toronto.
Brian Burke Is Out Of Anaheim
Straight From the Arse —
Brian Burke is no longer the GM of the Anaheim Ducks. Reports are circulating that he will stay on as an advisor, but he can accept employment elsewhere without penalty. Cue up the Burke to the Leafs stories. Hopefully for the Leafs sake, this comes to fruition sooner rather than later. The Toronto media will be in heaven with ...
Burke no longer a Duck - Possible Leafs GM?
The Hockey Herald —
via TSN:
Brian Burke is out as general manager of the Anaheim Ducks and senior vice president of hockey operations Bob Murray is in.
Sources tell TSN Burke will remain in a senior advisory capacity with the Ducks for now but that the final word on any hockey operations decisions in Anaheim will be made by Murray. Sources say Burke will, in this advisory capacity, have the ability to freely negotiate future employment opportunities as a GM in the NHL.
That would pave the way for Burke to be hired as president and GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the days, weeks or months ahead, if the Leafs and Burke so desire. And there ...
Burke no longer GM of Ducks?
HockeyAnalysis.com —
Burke no longer GM of Ducks? November 12th, 2008 by David Johnson | Posted in Anaheim Ducks , Toronto Maple Leafs It seems that in about 20 minutes or so that the Ducks will announce that Brian Burke is no longer GM of the Ducks and that Bob Murray will take over . This isn’t really all that surprising considering that it has been rumoured for a long time that Brian Burke has a desire to work on the east coast closer to his family in Boston. Additionally, it has been rumoured for some time that Ducks ownership has had a very lucrative contract extension on the table for months now and it is likely that if Burke really wanted to ...

The loyalty, legacy and short-lived limbo of Brian Burke
Puck Daddy —
Listening to Brian Burke speak today -- and this is in no way intended to be an indictment of his dedication as a parent -- you get the feeling that he'd almost rather have fresh ink on a new contract with the Anaheim Ducks than relocate back east to be with his family. That said, his message was clear: Blood is thicker than the desire to fit Beauchemin and Pahlsson under the cap next season, evidently. I believe him when he says it's "the toughest decision of his life" to begin the process of leaving the Ducks, because a professional comfort level is difficult to maintain when you've got kids three time ...
ALFIE SMASH
Scarlett Ice —
... going again. That being said, I sort of found it hilarious how he was lapping it up as he was booed off the ice. The boys are back on the ice Thursday and Alex Auld will be back in net. You guys had better not hang him out to dry again, boys. And I'm really sorry you guys are pissed off I made you sleep on the couch, but let this be a lesson for next time, okay? I'm glad you guys seem to at least show you care that you're sucking marbles though. Oh yeah, Burke, Ducks. Whatever.
