Buzz: Willis Offered to Mets, with Pudge
Speaking with WFAN, beat reporter Sweeny Murti said… “Omar Minaya said he inquired about Dontrelle Willis , but the Marlins were not going to deal him within the division.  “However, the Tigers have explored the idea of spinning him off, and they have contacted the Mets.  There wasn’t an official offer presented to Omar, but what was talked about, from ... Tigers Looking to Trade Dontrelle?
Published 12/6/2007 by Mr. Fleece at MLB Fleece Factor
... According to Metsblog.com, as per a report from WFAN in New York, the Tigers have called the NY Mets to gage their interest in Dontrelle Willis. It is no secret Omar Minaya has long coveted Dontrelle. It may be easier for Minaya to deal for him now that he is outside the division. In order to complete such a trade, the Tigers would want the Mets to take on additional salary in the form of Ivan Rodriguez. The Mets have signed Ramon Castro for 2 years, and just traded for Brian Schneider to be their starting catcher. ...

... According to Sweeny Murti via MetsBlog, the Tigers have looked into the idea of spinning Dontrelle Willis off to the Mets.  I'm sure this would thrill the Marlins, who didn't want to trade within the division.  No offer has been made, but it's been discussed.  ...

... organization who can play right now.  Unless Detroit is looking to get Brian Schneider or Johnny Estrada in return, I don't really see it.  And are the Tigers really looking to dump salary at this point?  Maybe... if they're trying to gear up for a Cabrera contract extension. And I know there have been rumblings that the Tigers didn't really want Willis, and took him at the Marlins' insistence, but doesn't the starting rotation really need him?   (via MetsBlog and MLB Trade Rumors)  The Tigers have acquired outfielder Freddy ...

... Willis even has the hang of responding to his fans in his entry, as he told a Marlins fan to not "give up on dan uggla and wiliingham and mike jacobs. its a good group of guys and u never know i might b back like conine", or when he responded to speculation that he may be traded again to the Mets by saying "thats crazy i havent even got my jersey yet ". Traded again or not, something tells me that Dontrelle's blog is going to be a fun read. ...

Are the Tigers Trying to Trade Dontrelle?
Published 12/6/2007 by Matt Watson at FanHouse
... (You're picking the wrong fight, Stephen A.!) For what it's worth, Dontrelle has heard the rumor and thinks it's bunk. (Of course, I wouldn't put it past Dombrowski to at least call Omar Minaya -- if Jim Bowden of all people was able to pull a fast one past Minaya by getting Lastings Milledge for Ryan Church and Brian Schneider, then Dombrowski had to be curious what a competent general manager like himself might be able to do.)
