Ah, but what about the goaltending? It appears as though Mile High Hockey is the only "NHL circle" that is confident in the abilities of apparent starter Peter Budaj. Everybody else seems to be operating under the delusion that Boots will have to compete with Andrew Raycroft for the top spot. I'd argue that the only thing they'll be fighting for is the window seat on the team plane.

I don’t know very many folks who believed that Joe Sakic, after lengthy reflection, would decide to retire. So this is a case of almost everyone’s prediction, including my own, coming true. But those who carefully weighed Sakic’s words, especially in his lengthy interview on Denver’s 104.3 The Fan radio in mid-August, and wondered whether he might ultimately decide he was through, were not being unreasonable. In fact, some of those folks were being more sensible and reasoned than those who simply reflexively waved their hands and said something along the lines of, “Aw, he’ll be back.”
