Roy Wants 5th Year Player Option
Bust a Bucket - A Portland Trail Blazers Blog — ... Today, Canzano enlightened us with a more concrete and reasonable explanation of why negotiations have stalled. Apparently the reason for this whole scenario is Roy's request for a 5th year player option. This is something that many of the very elite players in the league ask for and ultimately receive. Asking for a player option may seem like a dis to the Blazers but it's really just an opportunity for Roy to re-evaluate after the fourth year. He'll decide if he wants to come back at that time, and if the Blazers are still competitive, I don't see an issue. ...

Points in the Paint
BallerBlogger.com — ... John Canzano of The Oregonian:  “Multiple sources told me on Monday that the negotiations between the Trail Blazers and Brandon Roy remained locked up, in part, because Roy wants a player option for year No. 5 of the contract. The Blazers still have reportedly only offered four years vs. the five that Camp Roy wants. I’m on record for giving Roy whatever he wants, because he’s worth it. None of this explains why the Blazers aren’t willing to offer a five-year deal… because the sense here is that Roy would take the max deal and skip ...
