After missing last season to recover from shoulder surgery, Matt Clement has signed a $1.5 million, one-year contract with the St. Louis Cardinals, including a club option for 2009 if he finishes in the top five in 2008 Cy Young Award balloting. The 33-year-old righty went 5-5 with a 6.61 ERA in 2006 for the Boston Red Sox before his shoulder started to hurt. Clement is a career 87-86 with a 4.47 ERA over nine big league seasons.
