John Carlos and Tommie Smith were honored with the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the 2008 Espy Awards. The pair received recognition for their gloved-fist salute showing “Black Power” at Mexico’s 1968 Olympic Games. That definitely took some courage! [link]
