allonthefield Interesting trade, for sure. The Cavs gave up a lot of scoring, but the outside shooting threat of Szczerbiak (he's shooting something like 40 percent beyond the arc) gives them an added dimension. Wallace's defense down low should free up things a bit for Ilgauskas on the high block, and I expect him to increase his scoring average. -
Digital Headbutt Come on, Ben. Was not wearing a headband really that bad?
Oh. Well, carry on then!

Deadline Three Way Sends Ben Wallace to Cavs, Larry Hughes to Bulls
FanHouse —
Filed under: Bulls, Cavaliers, SuperSonics, NBA Media Watch, NBA Rumors, Chicago, Cleveland, Seattle, Breaking NewsThe initial word that it was a straight up Ben Wallace for Larry Hughes swap. And that would have sent me ton a little bit of a tangent. (Or straight to GoDaddy to buy FireDannyFerry.com) Instead, what eventually shook down makes a little bit more sense. Kind of. The Cavaliers will get Wallace, Joe Smith and a future second round pick from the Bulls. ...

UPDATE: The W.C. (or at least the good part of it) is indeed quiet, but the East finally is making some noise. ESPN.com is reporting that Ben Wallace has been sent from Chicago to Cleveland as part of a three way deal that includes the Sonics . Cleveland also gets Wally Szczerbiak, Joe Smith, and Delonte West, while Drew Gooden, Larry Hughes, Shannon Brown, and Cedric Simmons. Seattle mostly gets salary relief, which is fine with them. Given the flurry of massive deals that have gone down over the last week or two, I'm not going to say the trade deadline has come and gone ...

They got Ben Wallace, Joe Smith and a second round pick from the Bulls and Wally Szczerbiak and Delonte West from the Sonics. Damn! I have to say, it looks like the Cavs got a big boost to their roster and came away the victors in this one - but only if some things work out the right way for them. ...

Ball Wall: Blazers vs. Sonics
Blazers Blog —
Tuesday evening's game was a tough one to sit through for Blazer fans as they watched Ron Artest dismantle the Portland defense. However, another day in the NBA means another chance to get back on the horse for Brandon Roy and the boys. Keep in mind that Seattle, already one of the worst teams in the league, traded away a significant chunk of its roster at the deadline for expiring contracts and fringe players. The Sonics' bench will be thin tonight, and they'll have to find a way to account for the nearly 28 ppg they lost by dealing Wally World, Kurt Thomas and Delonte West. ...

And really, it's not entire surprising, seeing as how we're saddled with the Larry Hughes contract, I mean there's not a team in their right mind who would take a mostly useless, injury plagued player being completely overpaid. But I do believe if we have a chance to make ourselves better we should try. Was it a risk in doing so? Yes, it was a risk. But we’re going to have to make some decisions that have some risk in them if we want to continue to build and grow.” I guess that’s pretty much the whole point. We’ve all been whining for so long that Ferry ...

That said, if indeed the Cavs weren't on the level of the Pistons and Celts in the first place, Thursday's blockbuster trade with the Bulls and Sonics certainly doesn't seem to have magically put them there. By now, chances are you know the details of the deal like the back of your hand. The aftermath of the trade deadline
Arsenalist —
... No, I think he was wise not to jump into the trade market with reckless abandon. Cleveland did end up making their team a lot better with the acquisition of Ben Wallace, Joe Smith (who the Raptors liked), Wally Szczerbiak and Delonte West. In the process, Danny Ferry also acquired Wallace and Sczerbiak’s behemoth contracts. No sane Raptors supporter would’ve been an advocate of a drastic makeover which is sure to put a financial straight-jacket on your club for the next few years. If Cleveland fails to click with the new additions, it’ll be one of the worse ...

Seems the Gasol trade set off a chain reaction in the West. At this point NBA jerseys should have a removable name tag on the back a la Ocho Cinco. There were two sets of trades before the 3p.m. trading deadline. This one and this one.
The first deal sends Bonzi Wells and Mike James to NO. Paul needs more scorers around him. That’s a good move on the Hornets part, although Bonzi Wells can go from 0 to 730 in 2.3 seconds. Stock up on Prozac. Serenity now! Wooooosaaaah!

With 15 seconds left, the ball in his hands and Cleveland down one, 89-88, LeBron James drove to the basket and received a superstar call. James' two made free-throws and a DeShawn Stevenson missed layup at the buzzer gave ...
