Mock the Draft
Published 5/21/2008 by noreply@blogger.com (Matt) at Le Cavs! A Cleveland Cavaliers Blog
Okay, we're putting a one day hiatus on "What Went Right" (because it wasn't right enough) to talk a little about the draft. First, I saw that Chicago won the draft. Then I clicked on Chad Ford's mock draft. Even though I was appaled with who he had the Cavs taking (see below), "What Went Right" was in the works. For some reason, though, I kept reading. After finishing Chad's mock, I couldn't help but to mock Chad. ...
Mock Drafts For Fun Part 1 of 2
Published 5/21/2008 by jtom (noreply@blogger.com) at Super, Scintillating and Sarcastic
Alright let's take a shot at the first ever 2008 Mock Draft, maybe in the entire world (UPDATE: Nope, Chad Ford is WAY ahead of us all, as usual). I'm not big on doing these, you know, because they are meaningless, but they are fun so whatever. This will be the last until the day of the draft, I would imagine. 1. Chicago Bulls- Michael Beasley The Rose/Chicago thing is fine and dandy but they need a frontcourt scorer in the worst way. Chicago will certainly shake things up this offseason (Luol Deng might be gone) but right now it has a ton of different line-up options for whoever the hell its new coach will be. This puts them back into serious ...
Just remind yourself every minute or so: the Bulls won the lottery.

... as Rose (can be), there's no guard logjam to influence the decision. Heck, was there anyway? There's one above-average guard on the roster, and that's Gordon. Why pass on Rose to just keep that status quo? You can make a similar case for Beasley as an upgrade over the Tyrus/Noah/Gooden frontcourt rotation, but I was actually more comfortable with those three than the backcourt (and there's always the chance of getting a frontcourt upgrade through other means).
So far, Chad Ford, my man T-Zilly, and Stacey King (yes, a lottery win will get me to watch ...
NBA Draft Preview Version 1.1

As previously mentioned on RTC (and every other decent site that covers basketball), the NBA held its draft lottery last night. No consensus on the #3 pick
Published 5/21/2008 by SG at TWolvesBlog
No consensus on the #3 pick E-mail Written by SG Wednesday, 21 May 2008 Some Wolves fans have started an online petition to get the team's front office to select O.J. Mayo in next month's draft. From Chad Ford/ESPN: If the team drafts for need, Lopez will be the guy. The Wolves really need another big to help out Al Jefferson in the post, and Lopez should be a good fit. But don't count out Danilo Gallinari, who could be the surprise pick here. The team also needs a small forward like Gallinari who can be a facilitator in the offense. His basketball IQ could make him an immediate contributor. From Aran Smith/NBADraft.net: Minnesota essentially has ...
Trading down: Bucks #8 pick will sweeten offseason deals
Published 5/21/2008 by J.D. Mo at The Bob Boozer Jinx
Bucks GM John Hammond says he's open to trading the Bucks draft pick, now set at #8. This sounds like a plan. The Bucks needed to lottery-up into a top three pick to really be in control of how this draft would impact their roster. So ... what do I mean by that?
The top two picks are Michael Beasely and Derrick Rose, head and shoulders above the rest and real impact players. The #3 pick would also have been very useful. The Bucks would not likely draft center Brook Lopez, the projected #3 pick, unless for trade purposes, but the #3 would have provided the luxury ...

All of a sudden, two bad teams are good and the bottom half of this year’s playoff lineup – read Toronto, Philly and Atlanta – are a tad nervous. Donte Gets Mocked

Now that we know the official NBA draft order, we can begin the final step in the Donte Greene Recovery Process, acceptance. If mock draft are to be believe, and why shouldn't they be, Greene is officially in the running for a lottery selection. According to ESPN's Chad Ford, Greene will go 15th to the Suns: Greene is a steal if he slips this far. He has the potential to be a Shawn Marion-type combo forward in the pros. While his game is still raw, he has great length and athleticism and an emerging perimeter game.DraftExpress says why wait and sends Donte to Sacramento ...
East wins the lottery, who should the Cavs take?
Published 5/21/2008 by Mike at WaitingForNextYear
Future beast in the East? By now everyone is well aware that the Bulls and the Heat will have the top two picks in the NBA draft following last night’s lottery. There are a couple ways Cavs fans can digest this: a) “Hey, this could help the East finally get some talent and help balance the power!” or b) the more realistic “Oooohhh s@*t!” No matter who the Bulls take between Derrick Rose or Michael Beasley, the fact is that a team who Vegas had given odds as conference co-favorites entering this season will now have the top pick really worries me as a Cavs fan. Will they select Beasley to take Gooden’s minutes which, as Cavs fans know, would certainly make a double positive? How about ...
Chad Ford forgot to pay attention
Published 5/21/2008 by UofTOrange (noreply@blogger.com) at The Dream Shake - a Houston Rockets blog
In his mock draft today, Chad Ford did a pretty decent job. At least he did up until the Rockets pick, saying they would take JJ Hickson out of North Carolina St. If you don't know anything about Hickson, he's actually a really good player. He's also a Power Forward. I know that for every year that did not include Charles Barkley post the Otis Thorpe era that the Rockets have needed a power forward. This year is not one of those year. While Ford accurately notates that the Rockets have Luis Scola already, he forgets that 1. The Rockets just drafted a rookie in Carl Landry at the PF slot last year, a rookie that worked out very well and 2. The Rockets signed Chuck Hayes to ...

The NBA Draft Euro Lottery

Alea jacta est in the NBA Draft lottery and the first pick of the 2008 NBA Draft will be made by the Chicago Bulls. The second choice goes to the Miami Heat and the third one is for the Minnesota Timberwolves. We don’t go too deep in the order right now but here are a few thoughts.
First of all, the NBA Deputy Commissioner Adam Silver is really looking like the German PG Pascal Roller with glasses. I am really a big fan of Pascal but I did not know that he has used the Scottish cloning techniques in order to rule the NBA.

Joe Alexander , West Virginia 6-8, 220 The skinny: Alexander could be the sleeper of the draft. His combination of size, athleticism and shooting ability has GMs drooling right now. He's still learning the game, but on a team like the Blazers, his versatility could be an immediate asset. Donte Greene is also a possibility here. I'm not thrilled on this pick. Is it time for Ty Lawson to hire an agent? Sadly, I have to say the answer to that is yes. I think that sooner or later, barring some unbelievably bad workouts, the lighting fast point guard from UNC is going to hire someone to represent him. I had talked about the Denver Nuggets looking at Lawson a couple of weeks ago. Now, after last night's NBA Draft Lottery selection show, it seems that more and more are thinking that the Carolina connection between Lawson and head coach George Karl might happen. Chad Ford, who did his mock draft right after the NBA Draft Lottery selection show, has the sophomore heading to Denver. He says: ...

Sports Cards Uncensored talks about the Vikings' prospects, on the field and in sports cards. When starters don't make it to mini-camp, backups get a chance to practice more (Star Tribune). Roger Goodell is going to start fining teams when their players have discipline issues (Sports Illustrated). Frankly, I think this is getting a little ridiculous. Teams are already punished when their own players get suspended for their "personal conduct": they lose those players' services for a period of time. Now they get fined, too? And why are the teams responsible for everything the players do on their own time? I've said this before: by trying to curtail ...

On June 26th Bryan Colangelo and Maurizio Gheradini will sit in a green room in New York, sipping macchiatos, listening to 16 teams draft amateur basketball players. Then it will be their turn. What are their prospects and precedents? In 2001, the last time the Raptors picked 17th, they chose Michael Bradley who, last I heard, couldn't make a German league team. In 2005, Indiana got Danny Granger, and the year before that the Hawks chose Josh Smith. Rasho Nesterovic (1998) and Doug Christie(1992) were 17s, as was Jermaine O'Neal (1996) and Shawn Kemp (1989). With the sixth pick in the 2008 NBA Draft, the New York Knicks select... A constant this past college basketball season was the devastating effectiveness of Memphis's Chris Douglas-Roberts. Playing in the Tigers' dribble-drive motion offense, he was getting to the rim off the dribble, creating for others, or, my personal favorite, knocking down midrange jumpers and runners with stunning regularity. CDR showed a midrange game that is the proverbial "lost art," and to be a little less precious and pedantic, incredibly useful. His was a multi-skilled arsenal further enhanced by a willingness to pass, an ability to play off of the penetration of ...
