Joba Headed Back To NY for Tests
Published 8/5/2008 by Greg Cohen (noreply@blogger.com) at Sliding Into Home: A Yankees Blog
Here's an update from Peter Abraham: Joba Chamberlain will fly back to New York tomorrow for an MRI and other tests on his right shoulder. Chamberlain said he was injured in the fifth inning while pitching. “It was something where it grabbed and popped and got stiff,” he said. The injury appears more muscular in nature and does not involve the labrum or rotator cuff. “It doesn’t hurt in the wrong places,” Chamberlain said. “My velocity was fine.” Joe Girardi said that at the very least, Chamberlain would miss his next start. The last ...
Bronx Banter: Stiffed

... This is just getting stiff a lot in a short amount of time. It's a little stiff, but other than that's why we go back and just rule everything out." Joba said he'd never had this sensation in his arm before, but when informed that Girardi intended to have him skip his next start, he said he'd, "hopefully just miss one if that's the case" Said Girardi summing up, "So, he's got some stiffness and we'll just see what it is." Of greater concern is the Chamberlain quote that appeared on Peter Abraham's blog last night in which Chamberlain said, "It was something where it grabbed ...
So How Does the Lucky ‘Stache Thing Work?

... Does this mean the mustache only has power over Giambi? Or does it mean that when he shaved his mustache, he put a curse on the Yankees? Or maybe it means that it has no power at all? (I know, crazy, right.) Only one thing is certain: Joba is probably headed for a stint on the disabled list, and if I had to guess, I’d say there’s about an even chance he could be done for the season, which means just as it did in April, New York’s season is probably riding on Phil Hughes. ...
Yankees Miss Yet Another Opportunity

... The Yankees needed to win this game. Both the Red Sox and the Rays lost last night and provided the Yankees a prime opportunity to gain a game on both teams. Instead they lose in dramatic fashion by serving up a walk-off grand slam in the 9th. Damaso Marte was not sharp but in fairness to him, he's a one inning guy. Peter Abraham reported that the last time he threw that many pitches in a game was back in 2006. Last night, he walked 3 players while only getting 4 outs, and got progressively worse as his pitch count rose. But the Yankee offense missed some prime opportunities to ...

Yanks Lose Twice And They Only Played Once

... pitches. If it was a lefty, OK, maybe I'd let that go. But I was calling for Girardi to bring in David Robertson. Based on Marte's performance in the game and the game situation itself, in my opinion it was the right move. I also understand that several guys were unavailable. Makes me wonder what Girardi's plan was for extra innings. Was he just going to let Marte keep throwing? According to my crackerjack research staff, aka Pete Abraham, the grand slam came on Marte's 42nd pitch, the most ...
The Letters MRI Are a Potential Heartbreaker

... In the midst of the Yankees blowing a 2 run lead via Michael Young going oppo, the Yankees season just might have come to a screeching halt. Only pitches after giving up the homer Joba signaled to the dugout and to Pudge that the ole shoulder was not feeling so hot. So they pulled him out and this morning announced that he was headed back to NYC to jump into the Carl Pavano Memorial MRI machine. Uh oh. Big Uh oh. ...
