According to Charles Chandler of the Charlotte Observer, the Carolina Panthers have just released RB DeShaun Foster. Foster’s six-year career with the Panthers has been frequently interrupted by injuries. He played his first full season without missing a game last year, recording a career-high 247 carries but a career low 3.5-yard average.

The Carolina Panthers released starting running back DeShaun Foster on Thursday, a move that clears salary-cap space and opens the door for DeAngelo Williams to become the team's featured back. Foster, Carolina's second-round pick in 2002, never rushed for more than 897 yards in six seasons plagued by fumbles and injuries.
