The Carolina Panthers have signed free-agent guard Toniu Fonoti , a former second-round draft choice who has been in and out of the league in recent seasons because of weight problems. Attention, Charlotte residents — we recommend buying as much food as possible from the local Piggly Wiggly. Coming to town is “Two-Ton” Toniu Fonoti , a well-traveled (and even better fed) NFL veteran who has bounced around rosters over the past few years after a promising start to his pro career in San Diego. The Panthers have signed Fonoi, who entered the league in 2002 with the Chargers, was traded to the Vikings in 2005, played for the Dolphins in 2006, signed with the Falcons in 2007, was cut during training camp, and was out of football last year.
