Chase Seeding Too Much Reward for Wins?

Points leader Jeff Gordon was stripped of the lead he's held since the fifth race in the season. And even though the whole intent of the Chase in the first place is to eliminate a runaway points lead, suddenly, more reward for more wins became questionable. [link]
