Using UFC to Promote Fedor Emelianenko, Strikeforce
Bloody Elbow —
... But why stop there? I also believe Strikeforce can use the failed negotiations between Emelianenko/M-1 with the UFC this past summer to demonstrate their clout as a real competitor to Zuffa. And as you can see, the press is naturally drawn to the storyline of that now famous rift: ...
Strikeforce Marketing Fedor Emelianenko: The Anti-Star
Bloody Elbow —
... you've probably at least heard of Fedor by now. The only people who have no idea who the guy is either don't care about watching two grown men fight each other or don't have much access to media in general.
If Fedor wanted to be a huge star in the U.S., he would be. He would have signed with the UFC and he'd be on T-shirts in every mall in America by now. But if he doesn't care about that - and he very clearly doesn't - I don't see why we should.

... of Fedor Emelianenko's charm is that he doesn't look like a killer. Because of his stoic demeanor, he's often compared to the Dolph Lundgren character "Drago" from Rocky IV. True, Fedor does appear to come from the same Russian sports machine but he's not a ripped 6-foot-6 and 300 pounds. At 6-foot, 230, he looks like your chubby next door neighbor. But result are results. He's 30-1 with the only loss coming because of a cut. The Chicago Sun-Times did a nice job of explaining why he's so good with its story but how many people will get ...
Chicago Sun-Times calls Fedor Fat

The Chicago Sun-Times brings us the latest example of mainstream ignorance courtesy of Cage Writer.
Here's the headline for those that don't feel like squinting your eyes,
"He's been compared to Ali and Tyson but with a body like that, how can Russian Fedor Emelianenko be the best mixed martial arts fighter in the world?"
While it is nice to see the Sun-Times give prominent coverage to an unknown foreign fighter (at least unknown to people who still read newspapers) it still rubs WKR ...

... According to Chicago Sun-Times assistant managing editor John Silver, coverage was strong in the Chicago area for the event hosted in the Chicago suburb of Hoffman Estates. He noted that several of the competitors and CBS/Showtime analyst Frank Shamrock made the rounds on local sportstalk radio, and a rock station partnered with Strikeforce to host the weigh-ins. On the Sun-Times, the coverage was dialed up significantly. "Starting Wednesday we had six straight days of coverage. Fedor was on the back cover (the front page of sports in a tabloid) on ...
