Chicago Cubs: Looking Fate In The Eye And Scoffing
A Cubs fan sent this picture to us this morning: It's the Cubs World Series tickets, for Games 3 and 4. It's September 26. The Cubs' magic number remains four. And look: Cubs World Series tickets. Their existence mocks the natural order of the universe. And just looking at them is probably making many Cubs fans very, very nervous. [link]

My guess is there are pre-printed and pre-mailed tickets like these for every team that has a chance at the playoffs.

Wednesday, September 26, 2007 (9/26/2007 11:55:00 AM) - Al Deadspin does not seem to understand that printing tickets and the like takes a lot of time . This also is why I found it so funny many people said the team with the best record should have home field for the World Series...which means no one would know until a couple days before the actual Series who would be hosting what games, not to mention MLB reserves blocks of hotel rooms and the like for their staff. On the team site Adam discussed how much ...

Maybe Bud Selig Is Smarter Than We Thought

... of the St. Louis Sports Magazine, we put together a segment called The Tailgate that poked a little fun at the sports world.  One of the features that month was called “Someone Bought This” in reference to an eBay auction for a pair of 1989 Cardinals World Series tickets that were going for $3. The auction struck us as odd considering the Cardinals not only failed to make the World Series in 1989, they finished seven games back of even qualifying for the playoffs.  Surely the MLB didn’t need to print Series tickets that soon, did they? Well according to Deadspin.com , Major League Baseball hasn’t really changed their ways since the late 80’s, only this time they’re starting to screw with fate.  Even though I'm certain that every fiber of their being told them it could backfire, they went ahead and printed Cubs World Series tickets. Deadspin honcho Will Leitch writes: It ...

... I hope that isn't true. I'd much prefer to see the Cubs make the playoffs and then go down in flames. In a perfect world, they'd make it to the World Series and implode on a national stage. Plus, there's nothing worse than making it that far and losing. And I'm sure there are one or two jinxes left to catch up with the Cubs. I was delighted to see this story on Deadspin earlier in the week. Basically the story tells of how the Cubs have already sold and printed up World Series tickets. Always a good idea for a team like the Cubs to taunt fate. I mean, I know the ball club itself makes dumb moves but it must be contagious. ...
