... that the Vikings and Buccaneers have held trade talks with the Chiefs and he anticipates a deal will get done prior to next week's draft.
I don't care what his mullet looks like, get this done. If there was ever a draft to unload a high pick on a big name, this is the one. The value the Bucs will get out of Allen for their first rounder almost definitely outweighs what they would get for anyone likely to drop to #20 this year.

... The news that the Chiefs are working on trading Pro Bowl defensive end Jared Allen will impact the first round of the April 26-27 draft. It appears the most likely team to land Allen, who is looking for a long-term deal, is Minnesota, which would likely have to give up the No. 17 pick and a third-rounder to get Allen. ...

Curiouser and curiouser … ESPN is reporting that Jared Allen is seeking a trade to be settled before the draft.
According to a source, Allen is in the process of scheduling trips to the Minnesota Vikings and Tampa Bay Buccaneers over the next week. Because he is an unsigned franchise player, Allen has the freedom to meet and talk to teams, but the current price tag for a team wanting to sign him is two No. 1 picks, which is a price most teams aren’t willing to consider.

... next week. The Jacksonville Jaguars had previously inquired with Allen’s camp as well.
Allen said the two sticking points are working out terms of a deal with a new team and the Chiefs agreeing to compensation for a trade. A package of first- and second-round picks or one of first- and third-round picks in the upcoming draft have been discussed as possible terms. It’s unclear at this point what it will take to get the deal done.
And here’s ESPN’s John Clayton as well: ...

Solving Our Problems: Jared Allen

... pass rusher (yeah, I know, a tough decision), it's time to consider the cost of acquiring him. The Chiefs have placed their franchise tag on him, which means that, technically, the Vikings could sign him right now. In order to do so, however, they'd have to give up two first round picks, one from this year, and one from next year. Obviously, they aren't going to do that, which means that, in order to trade him, the Chiefs have to accept something less than two first rounders. Rumor is that the Vikings are considering offering their first round pick this year and their ...
Urlacher Threatens Holdout, Retirement
Published 4/18/2008 by Doug Farrar at Football Outsiders
... Well, now it’s not just Jared Allen of the Chiefs as the only elite defender unhappy with his current digs. Bears middle linebacker Brian Urlacher has alternately a.) had his agents ask the team to explore trade possibilities; b.) threatened to retire because of ongoing neck and back problems; and c.) threatened to hold out all the way through training camp if he doesn’t retire. The sticking point is a new contract — duh! — which Urlacher would appreciate after watching teammate Lance Briggs get $36 million over six years. Urlacher’s nine-year, $56.65 million deal, which ...
