Sams, a defensive back whose primary work during four years with the Baltimore Ravens has been as a returner of kickoffs and punts, has signed with the Kansas City Chiefs , presumably to be a returner of kickoffs and punts. Per the Kansas City Star , Sams has signed a one-year contract. He’ll replace Eddie Drummond, who replaced Dante Hall, who was earlier in the decade one of the most dynamic kick returners in the history of the league. According to the Kansas City Star, the Chiefs have signed return specialists BJ Sams to a one-year contract.
The twenty-seven year old missed all but one game last year with torn knee ligaments, but him and his agent are confident he’ll be ready for this season.
Despite the risk of injury, this isn’t a bad signing. Kansas City had an awful return game last season, and Sams has proven when healthy that he’s a very good returner with a combination of speed and vision.
