Late Afternoon Roundup for 7/14 (Hairston, Pena)
Published 7/14/2008 by Eric Stashin at Rotoprofessor
According Mandy Jenkins of The Cincinnati Enquirer (click here for the post), Jerry Hairston Jr. has suffered a “mild right hamstring strain”. She is citing John Fay, saying he will be looked at again on Thursday. It’s still too early to know how much time he could miss, so if you are using him, I’d try to find a short-term replacement for the time being. According to tsn.ca (click here for the article), Wily Mo Pena has suffered a “small tear in his left rotator cuff and fraying of the labrum in his left shoulder”. Surgery is scheduled for sometime in the next 7-10 days and it is unknown how long he will be out of action. He was struggling this season, hitting .205 with 2 HR and 10 RBI in 195 AB. He’s got power potential, but those in yearly formats should certainly move on and find a suitable replacement.

Sadly, there's not a win expectancy graph or BR Box Score for the Home Run Derby.
Since not much has changed in 24 hours, we're still talking about the rotation platoon idea. Between the Green Pillars takes a look at the potential availability of the non-starter in the platoon and argues the platoon would effectively waste a roster spot.
On injuries:
Jerry Hairston Jr. has a mild hamstring strain and will be re-evaluated on Thursday.

Closing Time: Odds and Ends

Technically this isn't a save situation, I'm just
getting an inning of work in to stay fresh.
Look, there was no way I was going to sit home and watch the
All-Star Game, but the restaurant where I had dinner (and a
few adult beverages) had it on. Alas, the game proved worthy of attention,
between buffalo tenders, pasta and shrimp. The exhibition had reached extra innings as I headed home - at that point you start rooting for the extension of the contest, and for
Bud Selig to look as silly as possible. In the end, I wasn't disappointed one bit.
A few quick thoughts from the Stadium, and then we'll get
back to the fantasy world:
Gotta feel sorry for Dan Uggla - 0-for-4 at the plate with
three strikeouts, and in the field he entered The Knoblauch Zone (three errors,
every play an adventure). … Not the best night for Philly ...
