... , which expands to a top 30 for each organization and comes out prior to spring training. When I took a look at the list , a few things jumped out at me both good and bad. The good news is the list looks much better than the one that came out last year in terms of overall potential major league talent. The bad news is when you look at the list you don’t see as many prospects, as we’d like, that were actually drafted by the Indians. Let’s start off by revealing the list. For info on each prospect, go to BaseballAmerica.com or buy the prospect handbook. Players in italics were ...

Mike Scioscia's tragic illness —
... 400 “greater than” arrows in that equation and all of them being the size of the moon, for proper perspective. Not only is a top starter almost always more valuable than a decent third baseman, but Sabathia is way better at his job than Blake is at his. Besides, Sabathia might be nearly as dangerous of a hitter.
So by that logic, the value of the players moved for the immensely more valuable Sabathia should dwarf what was given up for Blake, right?

Baseball America: Cleveland Indians Top 10 Prospects

Baseball America: Cleveland Indians Top 10 Prospects 1. Carlos Santana, c 2. Matt LaPorta, of 3. Nick Weglarz, of 4. Adam Miller, rhp 5. Beau Mills, 1b 6. Lonnie Chisenhall, ss 7. Kelvin de la Cruz, lhp 8. David Huff, lhp 9. Michael Brantley, of/1b 10. Carlos Rivero, ss Chisenhall’s not going to stay on SS. That doesn’t affect his positioning on the list, in my view. I’d have flip-flopped Mills and Miller; I have my doubts that Miller is ever going to be healthy enough to contribute. Brantley has no business being in the top 10 ahead of Rondon and Hodges.

The Dodgers wanted Casey Blake to fill a hole at third base, but they also didn't want to pick up any of the roughly $2 million in salary remaining on his contract. In return for paying Blake's remaining salary, the Indians were able to increase their return, getting Santana along with righthander John Meloan
The pot hasn't boiled over yet, but with the news last week that Carlos Santana is now the numero uno prospect for the Cleveland Indians it doesn't appear that my simmering will go away. ...

For those who still make the argument for or against a certain player based on RBI or batting average, it’s an excellently written article that makes sense to even those who can’t stand the new “alphabet soup” of new-age statistics. In case you missed it, Baseball America published their annual Top 10 Prospect List for the Indians: 1. Carlos Santana, c 2. Matt LaPorta, of 3. ...

Dodgers Now Have To Decide Between Dumb And Dumber
Fire Ned Colletti Now —
... How much less could Wolf and Looper possibly be looking at? Are they seriously going to take like 1 million dollars? I doubt it. In the end, I bet the Dodgers save 2-3 million by passing on Garland. Remember the last time the Dodgers sacrificed talent to save a couple million? How did that work out? ...

beau-mills As the Akron Aeros continue to struggle and have only won four of their last 13 games, there have been some bright spots in terms of their core players. Carlos Santana and Nick Weglarz each had two-home run games in the past week, as did 1B Beau Mills, the Indians 2007 first round draft pick out of Lewis & Clark State. ... (currently rated as our top farmhand ) for a then-expiring Casey Blake. Unfortunately, Pavano’s history isn’t exactly that of the workman Blake; you can’t blame another team for just counting down the days until he hits the DL. Perhaps if the Indians agreed to pay a portion of Pavano’s remaining salary, it would ease the pain? Word continue to circulate that the Philadelphia Phillies are starting to make a hard move for Lee, feeling that Halladay is will not be had for their bidding price. The conflicting issue here is that the Indians are looking for top pitching prospects ...
