The Flyers still must make a decision on 36-year-old defenseman Derian Hatcher, who has one year remaining on a contract that pays him $3.5 million. Hatcher has expressed a desire to play at least one more season and unless he retires or accepts a buyout, the only way the Flyers can remove him from their cap number is to place him on the long-term injury list. more

If Carter really does sign for $5 million per, that leaves them with $2 million for the rest of the team. Sure, they would love to lose Hatcher’s salary as pointed out in the article, but you can’t just tell a player to retire. And Hatch wants to get paid, yo. ...
