Clock Ticks on Manny Moments Links15
I once asked a prominent relief pitcher to describe the most idiotic thing he had witnessed in the big leagues. "That's easy," he said, and launched into the story of a former teammate—an All-Star outfielder—who refused to use toilet paper. A clubhouse attendant supplied the player with a daily ration of hand towels, which, when soiled, would be flushed. One afternoon ... [link]

That's Just Manny Being Fanny [Manny Being Manny]
Published 7/25/2008 by DAULERIO at Deadspin
... As Brett Favre retirement stories were to the NFL prior to his bizarre un-retirement saga, the Red Sox trading/losing/cutting Manny Ramirez has been a similar annual storyline in Major League Baseball. For the last few years, the Red Sox have answered the pressing "What about Manny?" question, but just when you think the relationship appears irreparable, they always seem to work it out. Today, Portfolio's Franz Lidz gets a jump-start on the speculation and suggests that in 2009 Manny's baffling antics and powerful bat will finally be out of Boston. There will be plenty of ...

Manny BM-ing Manny

Portfolio Magazine gives us their take on the Manny trevails over the past few months... err, years. Despite the fact it's got unsubstantiated quotes from unnamed member of the "Red Sox heirarchy" (Wally? is that you?) and is recycling false information (are we seriously still reporting the called 3rd-strike out was an intentional middle finger? seriously?), the article does contain one helluva new "Manny being Manny" story. ...

Thoughts from a week that taught us that Manny’s even weirder than we thought…   Red Sox Stats Pack of the Week (Now with subheads!) Surprising Stat of the Week: Dice-K’s averaging only 98.8 pitches per start this season. How can that be? I would’ve guessed it was at least up around 300. That 98.8 is a little deceiving though. In his starts right before being place on the DL (66) and right after being activated (48), ...

... This morning, Portfolio magazine — a Conde Nast business title, for those of you not living in the Manhattan media echo chamber – published a report with a juicy sub-hed: “Red Sox appear increasingly likely to let Ramirez go in 2009.” The magazine has had some buzz-worthy sports stories in the past, notably last year’s dispatch in which ...

We've all seen him talking on a cell phone in the Green Monster, making countless bone-headed plays in the outfield, high-fiving a fan after making a grab in center field, and shoving the Sox traveling secretary. Manny Being Manny in Philly?

... is reporting that Philly is a possible destination for Manny given his strong relationship with Cholly.  link I'm not that big a fan and would be totally fearful of what they would have to give up to get Manny. Plus his defense is beyond a total liability.  The last thing this team needs is another guy who plays defense poorly and can become completely unfocused at the plate. And if they get him, they better make sure the toilets are reinforced.  Manny only uses regular towels, not toilet paper.

As you may know, humanity is a living Linkin Park chorus now as players are wiping their asses with hand towels, people looking for sports news on the Internet have to do so in the middle of a terrible issue of Maxim, and seemingly every sports rivalry is erupting in brick-to-the-dome quality physical violence. ... Manny Ramirez had an arresting end to the season, pressed by revenge and impending free agency. In the 53 games, he morphed into the best hitter in baseball, hitting .396/.489/.743 with 17 home runs, leading Torre’s men to the playoffs. Is he going to be that player next season or the guy with the Red Sox who was hitting about .295/.390/.500 with 30 HR, while taking 30 games off?  He will be 37-years-old next season and 40 or 41 at the end of that contract. He also comes with the unique pleasures of associating with Manny Ramirez. Do you want your team ...
