A year ago, the folks who voted in The Associated Press preseason poll ranked North Carolina as college basketball's No. 1 team, which turned out to be kind of like those 400 points you get on the SAT for spelling your own name correctly.
Their score slipped a bit, however, on account of them picking UCLA No. 4. The Bruins became a No. 6 seed in their NCAA Tournament region.
That's OK. The voters get another shot this year, like every year, and Thursday the AP released the preseason poll for ...

DeCourcy gets right what the AP couldn’t

[image] It’s no secret around here that we like The Sporting News‘ Mike DeCourcy. And if it was a secret, well I just screwed that up by telling you jokers, didn’t I? Regardless, DeCourcy has been a friend of the site, even taking time out of his busy schedule as TSN’s senior basketball writer to let one of our blogger contestants interview him as part of the contest. Well, not only is he a heck of a nice guy, he just might be the smartest sportswriter in the world. He posted his take on the AP poll that was released today, and had a couple of tidbits that might be ...
Bear Market?

I couldn't agree more with The Sporting News' Mike DeCourcy . I too am shocked -- shocked -- that Mick Cronin's Cincinnati Bearcats didn't receive a single Top 25 vote. Cronin can flat out coach and Deonta Vaughn, Yancy Gates, and Lance Stephenson are as good a threesome as you'll find in the Big East. It is only a matter of time until the Bearcats win their way into the rankings.

sportingnews.com 10/28/2009 — CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina shooting guard Marcus Ginyard has been a part of one NCAA championship team and another that reached the Final Four. He ought to have a pretty good idea what such a team looks like, so it seemed reasonable to ...
UNC win in Blacksburgh
the5thcorner.com 10/30/2009 — Ok, let me say it before I get to the recap of the game: “I need to have a huge piece of crow pie” since I was so convinced that UNC would not be able to stay with Va Tech tonight. The reality is that they did and in the end North Carolina (5-3, 1-3 in the ACC) defeated #13 ...
