... Georgetown getting 71 of 73 first-place votes. But there was considerable disagreement whether Mason or Virginia should be second, and the two teams switched places repeatedly as the votes were tallied. Mason wound up on top, barely. Poll movement: Too many minor fluctuations to mention here. Seven of the eight remaining undefeated teams lost last week; only Georgetown remained unscathed. Biggest movers: GW dropped from fifth to a tie for eighth, and UMBC jumped from ninth to sixth. The AP ranks 'em like this: Georgetown (5th), Virginia (33rd), George Mason (37th tied) and ...
BYU Ranked, Big West is Spanked
Published 11/27/2007 by Adam Rank at FanHouse
... BYU moved into the Top 25 following a very good showing in the Las Vegas Invitational. The Cougars knocked off No. 6 Louisville to make it's debut at No. 21. There is no complaining here, that's a pretty good leaping off point for BYU, who figure to keep climbing up the polls. Don't be fooled, BYU is for real. ...
Still No Love for St. Mary's
Published 12/4/2007 by Adam Rank at FanHouse
... St. Mary's is still on the outside of the AP Top 25, coming in at No. 26 in the recent poll released on Monday. Gonzaga made a modest gain in the poll, climbing from No. 19 to No. 17. Our old pals, BYU also made a slight gain, moving up one spot to No. 20. ...
Washington State Jumps UCLA in Polls
Published 12/11/2007 by Adam Rank at FanHouse
... Washington State moved up to No. 7 in the latest AP poll, vaulting one spot past UCLA. And yet, nobody in Westwood seems to care all of that much. Probably because it wasn't much of a shock considering the Cougars are 9-0 and the Bruins are 8-1. Plus Washington State had that huge win over Gonzaga to help them out. But you can bet they are partying in Pullman. Or not. ...
Pitt v. GTown LiveBlog
Published 1/14/2008 by Keith W. at Pitt Blather -- The Rantings Continue
... for the first time since the preseason.“We had a great week,” said Pitt coach Agnus Berenato, whose team beat Syracuse and Cincinnati last week. “We all have to play each other in this conference and everybody is really good.” The Panthers (13-3), who are 3-0 in the conference for the first time since the 1993-94 season, don’t play again until hosting Providence on Saturday. Kudos to the women. Returning to the men’s side, Pitt is back up to No. 15 in the AP Poll while Georgetown is No. 5. Time to go shovel the driveway (13 inches of fresh snow here in Maine). I’ll be back ...
Who's "Over Rated" in College Basketball?
Published 1/24/2008 by Under Review at Play is Under Review
... I thought it would be good to take a look at the useless AP Top 25 College Basketball Poll. I'm really not sure why this poll even matters, but everyone refers to it during the regular season. Voters seem to just look for the best records from the "Big Name" schools and then throw us a bone and include a team like Drake to make it seem like they are "enlightened" voters. Based on the fact that the ...
I didn't expect 'em to be ranked...but come on.

File this under getting what you ask for- Many Purdue fans want Purdue to stay under the radar for as long as they can. Well, nationally, they'll continue to do so. The AP Poll came out and while I didn't expect Purdue to be ranked, they didn't receive ANY votes??? Huh? ...
L.D. Williams Will Haunt Duke's Nightmares

Yes, the fact that Duke (who dropped to No. 5 today) lost to Wake last night is ancient news in internet time, but it was lost in the shuffle around here with all of our Daytona/All-Star Game nonsense. But don't think we forgot about it.
Here is perhaps the best highlight from a great ACC game that was approximately 1,000 times more entertaining than what was going on in NOLA:
