Get Ready for the United Football League

... Mark Cuban comments about it on his blogmaverick site. He s vowed off talking about the NBA on his blog, but not this, obviously, at least for now. Anyone think Cuban was more open to this after the dissapointment of the Mavs getting bounced in the first round of the playoffs? That they caught him on the rebound? That was my first instinct, but overall I still think he s a businessman first and he wouldn t be in this if he didn t think he d stand to make some return on his investment we ll see though. I m skeptical that they can be profitable any time in the short run, but if they re commited in the long haul, maybe ::

... . The league would play on Friday nights, alienating all the high school football players and coaches, and it would attempt to land prospects chosen lower than the second round of the NFL draft. If this doesn’t work, Cuban is fully prepared to eat his weight in jelly beans or light Craig Sager on fire (he’ll have to start with the pants because we imagine those sport coats are flame-resistant) in order to get people to listen to him. Cuban explains himself further on his blog. Apparently this is going to be called the UFL. His theory is that football demand exceeds supply. Our theory is we don’t want to watch a mediocre product when a superior one exists. But someone in Sacramento or Portland might feel differently. (And in light of the Vikings’ recent trajectory, we use the term “superior” with great caution).

... Mark Cuban announced on his blog Blog Maverick that he and a few other “smart people” are investigating the idea of creating another professional football league, the UFL. He points out his feeling that demand outweighs supply for this product and there is room for another professional football league. My first reaction was he’s probably right. Until I kept reading to discover that he wants to compete against the NFL.

... The problem with reading any story about a potential new pro football league is that you have to read through all the stuff about all the previous failed attempts at this before you get to any current news. So why not skip straight to Cuban's own blog for more concise details?

- Sunblock, Mr. Cuban, sunblock. All that sun in the Cayman Islands may have fried his brain a bit, as the owner of the Dallas Mavericks has returned from vacation with newfound chutzpah to compete with the NFL. Honestly, if the UFL can cut down on the stoppages of play, the endless commercial breaks, the whistles, etc, then hell, we’re all for it.
Three Better Football League Ideas than the UFL

... Apparently, Mark Cuban is actually serious about creating a scarecrow to compete with Michelangelo’s David. He even suggested on his blog that the NFL is ripe for the picking. Really?

Mark Cuban Considers New Football League

... Here we go again. Some hotshot with too much money and too much time on his hands thinks he’s going to start a professional football league to rival the NFL. In a post at BlogMaverick.com yesterday, Dallas Mavericks eccentric billionaire owner Mark Cuban said his proposed UFL (United Football League) would hopefully someday be the NFL’s equal or more. I can’t tell you how funny I think this is. I laughed and laughed and laughed. For starters, I can give you three reasons Cuban should find something else to occupy the hours he obviously has too many of:

The UFL

... So what will it be then? The Arena League? Or better yet, maybe Mark Cuban should get cracking on the UFL idea. Could you just imagine? With the first pick of the 2010 first ever UFL Draft, Cuban’s Conquerors select Michael Vick, Quarterback, Virginia Tech. Now that would be tremendous. ...

"is it crazy to try to compete with the NFL ?"
Yes. And Mark Cuban thinking different is as crazy as Santa Claus banging a mermaid on the back of a three-headed unicorn.
