So two MLS side fell at the first hurdle, while two USL sides leapt clear and advance to the group stage. ... .  Colin Clarke led his first place USL Puerto Rico Islanders into the group stage of the CONCACAF Champions League by knocking off a strong Costa Rican club Alajuelense . After drawing in the first leg the Islanders trailed most of the second led before rallying with two goals in the later stages by Kendall Jagdeosingh and Taiwo Atieno.
