Published 4/20/2008 by Jeff Barrows
After being dropped on the seat of his pants by a straight from Hopkins ( 48-5-1 32 KO's ), Calzaghe ( 45-0 32 KO's ) found his rythym and brought the fight to Bernard all night. Calzaghe won a split decision in the 12 round event. Judges Ted Gizma (115-112) and Chuck Giampa (116-111) had it for Calzaghe while judge Adalaide Byrd had it 114-113 for Hopkins. Looks like a white boy did, in fact, beat him. Amazing that Hopkins didn't catch more (read: any) heat for his pre-fight comment. Why is it ok for a non-white person to make a derogatory remark about white people, but if a white person said anything negative about a race, all hell breaks loose? Imagine, if you will, Calzaghe saying he would "never let a black boy beat me. Never." ...
