Published 2/25/2008 by PostmanR at FanHouse
Filed under: New York, Yankees, AL East, PEDsNow that the dust has settled a bit regarding the tête-à-tête between Roger Clemens and Brain McNamee up on the Hill about two weeks ago, everyone involved in advancing the litigation has had time to digest just what was said and just how to proceed. (Or not proceed at all.) Well, according to three lawyers familiar with the situation speaking to the New York Times, the first step in the Department of Justice launching a criminal perjury investigation against Roger Clemens has begun. A draft letter referring Clemens, but not his accuser, Brian McNamee, had been drawn up by staff ...
Congress May Claim Clemens Committed Perjury
Published 2/25/2008 by jason at SPORTSbyBROOKS
HUGGING HAROLD REYNOLDS tips us off to a NEW YORK TIMES report that Congress may go after Roger Clemens for lying about steroid use . The House Committee on Oversight & Government Reform has drafted a letter to the Justice Department, asking that Clemens be investigated for possibly committing perjury during his Feb. 13 appearance on Capitol Hill . Not mentioned in the current drafting is Brian McNamee , but lawyers close to the matter say the ex-trainer could be in the final letter by the time it gets officially sent to the DoJ. If not, McNamee may be vindicated for telling the truth (at least in the eyes of Congress), while Clemens digs an even deeper hole for himself. Hope the Rocket has fun at his ...

There was a good feature by Tyler Kepner in today's NY Times on how Phil Hughes is interacting with fans via his blog. Other players have official websites, but rarely ever update them. Dr. Phil Good on the other hand, usually updates his on a daily basis, holds contests, and takes fan's questions. So far, so good. That could describes how things have been going for Andy Pettitte since he arrived in Yankees camp. "Everything has been normal," Pettitte said after throwing his first and final round of batting practice yesterday. "It was nice to come in here and get into a routine. What I needed was a ...

BOB: Marlins Stadium Approved by Brian Borawski February 27, 2008 Marlins' stadium deal approved, Rays' deal making progress The Florida Marlins got the two approvals they needed last Thursday and after years of setbacks, they finally have funding for a new stadium. Both the city of Miami and the Miami-Dade County Commission approved the stadium deal that would make the site of the Orange Bowl the Marlins' new home. The stadium is expected to be ready for the 2011 opening day, which is just in time because the team’s current lease expires after the 2010 season. The estimated cost of building the stadium will be $525 million. The county is putting in $347 million, which will mostly consist of money from a tourist tax. The ...

On Feb. 13 Roger Clemens walked out of the Capitol in trouble. In one key moment that day, he testified that he was never at Jose Canseco's home on June 9, 1998 and even produced a receipt from a public golf course from that date. Clemens' attendance at this party was an important point of contention between the pitcher and his former personal trainer, Brian McNamee. Clemens' lawyer, Rusty Hardin, used the golf course receipt to debunk McNamee's story and attempt to destroy his credibility, a tactic Hardin hoped to hammer home in front of Congress through his famous client. ...
