In the Jim Calhoun era at UConn, the Huskies had not lost a first round game (14-0). Calhoun’s record now stands at 14-1 in first round games at UConn as the San Diego Toreros upset the Huskies in a West Region First Round game at the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa, FL. The Toreros move on to face Western Kentucky, who upset Drake, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Please Stop Talking, Tim Brando

I am watching the finish of the San Diego-UConn game. It's now going into overtime. This in itself is notable. But I would just like to point out how unbelievably painful Tim Brando's announcing has been down the stretch. Example 1: With 54 seconds ...Where Does Chipper Jones Rank All Time?

I picked 25 of the first 32 games correctly, which ain’t half bad — although I wish I’d stuck with my gut and picked Villanova over Clemson. I think that one hurts the most, but being quite possibly one of the very few who agonizes over brackets and picking the San Diego Toreros to beat UConn like they did yesterday means I’m giving myself a big ego massage (as well ...Breaking News: Price Out Til September With Torn ACL

UConn junior point guard A.J. Price will be out until at least September after tearing the ACL in his left knee in yesterday’s loss to the San Diego Toreros in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. ”I am really concerned about A.J.,” said head coach Jim Calhoun after Friday’s game. “Particularly with all the things that he’s been through and the ...THOUGHTS FROUND ROUND ONE

Just some thoughts off the top of my head: - Hasheem Thabeet plays 7'3 on defense for the most part, although the San Diego Toreros did not seem too phased. However, of the offensive end, he quickly shrinks at least six inches and he never was able to assert himself on that end today. - Watching Villanova, you see why guards want to play for Jay Wright, his guards have a LOT of freedom.Jackson’s Jumper In OT Gives Toreros Upset Win Over Huskies 70-69

In what has to be the most surprising upset of the NCAA tournament thus far, unheralded University of #13 San Diego gave #4 Connecticut all it could handle - and then some. De’Jon Jackson’s jumper with 1.2 seconds left in overtime catapulted the Toreros into the second round as they upset the Huskies 70-69 in the NCAA West regional Friday at St. Pete Times Forum. Finally, a Cinderella story to make this year’s March Madness a little more compelling. Thanks, Toreros! #14 San Diego was able to upend #3 UConn in a 70-69 OT thriller on Friday, giving Huskies coach Jim Calhoun his first-ever first round loss in 15 appearances - and no dobut causing Pepto-Bismol markups at the Storrs Walgreen’s. You think fans at the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa Bay got there money's worth today? So much for all that Big East love by this year’s selection committee. Big East powerhouse UConn fell to the San Diego Toreros in overtime in the West regional. This is the same San Diego Toreros that lost to Gonzaga (who lost in the first round of the tournament) twice, USC (beat by Kansas State in the first round), South Alabama (crushed by 20 by Butler in the first round), and CSU ...The People’s Book It: Rob M – Day 1

In the second great finish of the day San Diego pulled off the big upset of UConn. De’Jon Jackson hit a fallaway jumper to give San Diego the lead with 1.2 secs left and the Toreros managed to hang on giving Jim Calhoun his first 1st round loss ever. This photo deserved its own post. It looks like my younger brother whenever I allow him to beat me in a game of one-on-one. I’m still not over that Drake letdown. I’ve never felt so disappointed over a buzzer-beater. Dammit, UConn’s losing by double-digits to San Diego, I told everyone to take the Toreros, but I pussed out and took UConn.
