Conspiracy theorists about SEC officiating might be on to something
Conspiracy theorists about SEC officiating might be on to something
TUSCALOOSA, ALA. -- Mike Slive may fine me for this, but here goes. How can it come to this? How can college football's best conference -- the best players, the best coaches, the best of everything -- continue to be subjected to brutally poor officiating? LSU coach Les Miles has to bite his lip about poor SEC officiating. Alabama beat LSU 24-15 in the best game of the season to date, and all we'll remember is a blown call from a replay official late in the fourth quarter that ...

SEC Officiating, Conspiracies, and You
Hard Knox Sports — ... Slive has a decision to make. He can stand idly by and back his official, or do his job and relieve someone else of theirs.   I’m truly disappointed in ESPN’s failure to mention such an obvious play. To not show the play in their highlights package shows either a lack of credibility or attentiveness. I’m not a conspiracy theorist, but something’s definitely amiss, and this one was indefensible. Superlatives: Duck, duck ... Gerhart!
Dr. Saturday — ... Most Creative: Les Miles, whose masterly postgame softshoe would make Mack Brown flush with envy. Faced with questions about a blown interception call late enough in the game to make a big difference, Miles calmly acknowledged, "Speculation is rampant." ...

Well, That Sucked
And The Valley Shook — ... pretty excited to watch an epic fourth quarter.  Yeah, not so much. Watching just the fourth quarter of the game was a bitter, bitter experience.  Alabama had three drives which went FG, TD, FG while LSU's offense sputtered and failed to even gain a first down.  I want to bitch about The Call, which was awful but entirely expected given the SEC's track record this season, but it looks like people already beat me to the punch.  But when you just watch the fourth quarter, it's impossible to blame ...

Analysis: SEC officiating again debated after Alabama's win over LSU
The Bama Beat — ... on this one play, remarking that it was unfortunate that he felt he had to focus on it. The Sporting News' Matt Hayes also delved into the play and other SEC mistakes, going so far as to give credence to some of the conspiracy theorists out there. Dan Wetzel of Yahoo! ...

And The Valley Shook — ... Conspiracy theorists about SEC officiating might be on to something - Matt Hayes - College Football - Sporting News. A mainstream sports journalist is saying it now. For the record, I don't buy into any conspiracy theory about the SEC protecting Bama and Florida through deliberately poor officiating. A conspiracy that large would depend on probably a dozen or more people being involved, and I just can't see such a conspiracy possibly holding silent. Plus, if the conspiracy were to break, a lot more harm would be done to the SEC than would be worth risking to get the benefit ...

ATVS Week 10 Roundtable
And The Valley Shook — ... win a division title in most years. It's a damn strong rebound from 2008 and LSU fans should be proud and encouraged by that. Poseur: Last thoughts on the call, which is only getting me mad due to the standard Bama Fan reaction.  The tact the average Bama fan has taken is one of three, only one of which resembles reality.  ONE: It was the right call and this is LSU whining. Yes, those LSU partisans who write for CNN/SI, The Sporting News, and Yahoo are just whining. They were rooting for ...

Hopefully, the Big East got this week's replay row out of the way early

Of Course He’s Not Claiming A Conspiracy
Pitt Blather -- The Rantings Continue — ... ruin at least one game of serious consequence. The latest example occurred Friday in Cincinnati, when a ridiculous replay reversal gave Cincinnati a touchdown in its 24-21 victory over West Virginia. The call might have cost WVU a chance to win the Big East, while Cincinnati remained in national-title contention. Am I suggesting a conspiracy, a Big East agenda to keep a team alive for the BCS title game? No. But I’d have a hard time telling a conspiracy theorist he’s nuts. This seems familiar . This is beyond bad officiating. It’s so undeniably awful, I’m beginning to believe ...

It seems the SEC officiating drama isn't going to end any time soonDr. Saturday
I've argued enough about it today to know that clearly I'm in the vast minority about LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson's non-pick Saturday at Alabama, which I agreed with the game officials was too inconclusive to overturn*: I'm much less interested in the rightness or wrongness of the call, ...
