Newsday: Could Matsui and Mets Be a Match? Alou Part Two? With Hideki Matsui telling friends he’d like to remain in New York above all else, as well as return to leftfield, it would be logical for the free agent to appear on the Mets’ radar this offseason. In fact, Matsui is so eager to play the field again after a full year as the Yankees’ designated hitter that he’s also told people he would consider trying first base - a position he hasn’t played since high school. That’s quite a coincidence, with the Mets looking to fill holes at both those spots this offseason. For a ...

No, not Kaz. Hideki. David Lennon ponders in Newsday if Hideki Matsui could make his way across town. Please, no. Matsui did not play one inning in the field this season. Let me repeat that. ... October 14, 2009, 10:10AM 10-14-HIDEKI-MATSUI.jpg Associated Press Hideki Matsui hit .274 for the Yankees this season, with 28 HR, 90 RBI and a .367 OBP. Don't get me wrong, I love what Hideki Matsui brings to a lineup. But I fear spacious Citi Field isn't the right place for a 35-year-old DH with two surgically-repaired knees to resume everyday left field duties in 2010. David Lennon of Newsday today speculates the Mets could be a potential landing spot for the soon-to-be free agent, who is supposedly interested in staying in New York after his post-season run with the ...
