It's NFL Black Monday: New York Jets Fire Eric Mangini
Music City Miracles —
This is the day every year when a handful of NFL coaches lose their jobs. Here is the list so far:
Jay Glazer is reporting that the Jets have fired. That was quite a fall for the Jets from the best team in the AFC just a few weeks ago.
Rod Marninelli is out after his record breaking year in Detroit.
Romeo Crennel is out after a terribly dissapointing year in Cleveland.
Three out ...
COWHER DECLINES BROWNS’ OFFER
ProFootballTalk.com —
ESPN’s Chris Mortensen is reporting that Bill Cowher declined an offer to become the Brown’s next head coach when he met on Saturday night with owner Randy Lerner. The rumors placing Cowher in Cleveland had been swirling for weeks. The fact that he meant with Lerner shows that Cowher at least had given serious consideration to the position, though it remains unclear why he turned it down. Mortensen is saying that Cowher told Lerner he will not coach at all in 2009, though other league sources say Cowher may still pursue a job elsewhere. With Cowher’s name no longer attached to ...

... --Lastly, this has nothing to do with Nebraska Football, but our man Pete got his wish: Romeo Crennel was fired today, and Cleveland Browns GM Phil Savage was canned yesterday. May a new, not-so-shitty era of Browns football be upon us? Time will tell. (Too bad Bill Cower has already said "no.") ...

Dismissed, three's company
The Stankoniforous Files —
via ESPN Stank-0 just saw that three head coaches were pinkslipped today. This is the latest in the Dismissed series. The three coaches let go are: Eric Mangini, Romeo Crennel, and Rod Marinelli. The only firing that truly surprises Stank-0 is Mangini. The J-E-T-S, JETS, JETS, JETS were a game away from the playoffs with a 38 year old quarterback in a tough division. Romey Rome was the subject of an earlier post. The Browns did so poorly that ...
Lots of New NFL Jobs up for Grabs
Sports Blog - football, basketball, and baseball —
... hear lots of rumors about who will replace them over the next few weeks.
The most notable coach fired is Eric Mangini, who took over a team in shambles three years ago, won 10 games in his first season and went to the playoffs, and then won nine games this season. Also to go was the winless Rod Marinelli, which was no shocker, and also not too shocking was the ousting of Romeo Crenell, who guided a team that scored one offensive touchdown in its final six games.
There’s rumors circulating that the Browns contacted former Steelers head coach Bill ...

Northwestern falls in OT to Mizzou in the Alamo Bowl. That was a lot closer than Illinois came. Bulls win; pigs fly. Rose goes for 21 points and 13 assists as Chicago wins in New Jersey for the first time since 2001. Mangini, Marinelli, and Crennel fired. Must have been Mangini's idea to dump Pennington for Favre. Couldn't pass this one up. The headline I clicked on said "With Bears dead, Hawks own the city." I don't think Stormin' Norman wrote it. Lovie not saying anything about coaching ...
Kyle Orton Gets Endorsement For Next Year
Windy City Gridiron —
... Cleveland has also let go Romeo Crennel - Crennel also found himself in a bad situation. They got burned by the whole Derek Anderson deal. Then both Anderson and Quinn go down and they have to finish with their 3rd string QB. They have some major league divas over there that can't be good for the team. Braylon Edwards went from a world beater to a guy who cannot even hang onto the ball. ...

... was inconsistent and broke his finger. 3. Steelers-Ravens rivalry Why: Pittsburgh and Baltimore produced a pair of classic games this season (see below). These two teams also made for great story lines, with talk of bounties and trash-talking text messages. These teams always play each other tough regardless of the records. But the rivalry is at its best when both teams are good, which was the case this season. 2. Browns fire Romeo Crennel and Phil Savage ...
