Cubs Announcement Hiring Jaramillo Expected Wednesday
Bleed Cubbie Blue —
... it is anticipated that the Cubs will announce the hiring of former Texas Rangers hitting coach Rudy Jaramillo to be their hitting coach for the next three years, at a reported cost of $2.42 million. That will make him the highest-paid hitting coach in the major leagues, and also make him the hitting coach for whoever the Cubs' next manager is -- because Lou Piniella has repeatedly stated that 2010 will be his last season.

The news about the Cubs signing Rudy Jaramillo to the most expensive contract for a coach ever is the buzz this morning in the world of the Cublogosphere. Just like President Obama, either you love or hate this move, or you just don't care and are busy gathering nuts for the coming winter season. People on the love side point to the fact that he has helped a lot of players improve while in Texas, including DeRosa, Soriano and even Bradley. People on the hate side point out that these "improvements" came at a time when steroid usage was rampant and Texas plays on a little league field. Personally, I think when the Cubs are going to have to eat most of Bradley's contract, ...

In case you don’t know by now? Where have you been? Phil Rogers deserves some kudos because last week he scooped all of us with the Rudy Jaramillo to the Cubs rumor. ... The Cubs signed Rudy Jaramillo as the team’s brand spanking new scapegoat hitting coach on Wednesday. (See how I did that cutesy strikeout thing with scapegoat right there? That’s the clever blogger’s best friend. I’m so cutting edge.) From Cubs.com: Jaramillo’s hitters have won 17 Silver Slugger Awards, four Most Valuable Player Awards, three home run titles, and three RBI crowns under his tutelage. He had been the Rangers’ hitting coach since 1995, and worked ...

Sigh. After the lost season for the Cubs, I could have easily stayed away until the organizational meetings next month. But when someone delivers you a gift, such as the Cubs in signing Rudy Jaramillo to serve as the new hitting instructor, you're obligated to say "Thank you!".
Say it with me now. A hitting coach is now a panacea. A hitting coach is not a savior. A hitting coach is often only as good as the talent that he has to work with.
Okay, now that we have gotten this out of the way, here's what signing Jaramillo is though, in my ...
